To maximize rewards in the Forge of Empires Fall Event minigame, clear tiles directly underneath Coffee Cups to drop them off the bottom of the board for Grand Prize progress, and pop groups of five or more matching tiles to generate Reward Jars for Daily Specials.
Minigame Board Mechanics
The Fall Event minigame board uses a vertical collapse system. Tapping two or more adjacent blocks of the same color removes them from the board. Any blocks positioned above the cleared space drop straight down within their respective columns, and new blocks spawn from the top edge to refill the grid. Blocks do not slide horizontally on their own.
Every board contains two main prize objectives:
- Coffee Cups: Cups do not award prizes when tapped. You must clear the blocks underneath them until the cups reach the bottom row and fall off the board. Each collected cup awards one point toward the Grand Prize milestone track.
- Reward Jars: Jars do not appear on the starting board naturally. They spawn in place of a popped group whenever you clear five or more matching blocks in a single tap. Once spawned, a jar must also be dropped to the bottom row to claim its contents.
Because blocks only fall vertically, avoid clearing blocks in adjacent columns unless you are setting up a combo. Focus your moves on the specific columns holding your cups or jars.
Reward Jar Sizes and Drop Odds
The contents and Daily Special odds of a Reward Jar depend entirely on the number of matching blocks cleared to create it. Popping small groups of two to four blocks clears space but produces no jar.
| Cluster Size | Jar Tier | Contents and Odds |
|---|---|---|
| 5–6 Blocks | 1-Star Jar | Basic consumables, low league score, lowest Daily Special odds |
| 7–8 Blocks | 2-Star Jar | Moderate resources, basic units, low Daily Special odds |
| 9–10 Blocks | 3-Star Jar | Goods, Forge Point packs, moderate Daily Special odds |
| 11–14 Blocks | 4-Star Jar | Secondary event items, solid league points, high Daily Special odds |
| 15+ Blocks | 5-Star / 6-Star Jar | Premium rewards, maximum league points, highest Daily Special odds |
When targeting a Daily Special, clear off-color divider tiles to merge smaller groups of the same color into a 15-block cluster before popping them.
Wooden Spoons vs. Golden Spoons
Entering a board requires spending either a Wooden Spoon or a Golden Spoon:
- Wooden Spoons: Standard entry costs one Wooden Spoon and grants a fixed move limit, typically 25 moves. Play methodically by planning each tap to drop cups in the fewest turns possible.
- Golden Spoons: Activating a Golden Spoon starts a timed window lasting five to eight minutes, during which you have unlimited board entries and resets.
How to Play a Golden Spoon
- Check the opening layout immediately for existing Coffee Cups or easy 15-block clusters.
- Clear the direct vertical paths to drop available cups within three to four moves.
- Reset the board immediately if no cups are visible and no large clusters exist, rather than using time to realign bad layouts.
- Keep clicking active matches rapidly to maximize the total number of boards cleared before the timer expires. Save Golden Spoons for days featuring a Daily Special you want for your city.
Booster Tools
Boosters bypass movement limits and clear blocked columns when regular moves run low.
- Spatula: Removes one single selected block. Use it to remove a lone blocking tile preventing two large color groups from merging, or to remove the final block beneath a cup sitting one space above the bottom row.
- Fork: Clears an entire vertical column. Use the Fork when a single column contains multiple Coffee Cups to drop all of them off the board instantly.
- Rolling Pin: Clears an entire horizontal row. Use the Rolling Pin when multiple cups or jars are stuck along the bottom rows with mismatched blocks beneath them.
Choosing Between Grand Prizes and Daily Specials
If your priority is the fully upgraded main event building, follow a cup-first strategy. Target a steady baseline of three to four dropped cups per standard board. Focus moves exclusively on vertical drops, ignoring cluster sizes unless creating a jar directly clears the path under a cup.
If your primary goal is Daily Specials, spend your moves isolating and merging large tile groups to produce 4-star and 5-star jars. Accept fewer cup drops on those boards to maximize the value of each spawned chest.

I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
This helped me understand updates much better.
This guide answered the exact question I had.
The explanation is clear, especially for beginners.
