To use Rainbow Blasts effectively in Gardenscapes, charge the circular meter by detonating explosive power-ups, then swap the blast with the board's dominant color or combine it with an adjacent power-up to clear dense obstacles and trigger cascading matches.
Charging the Rainbow Blast Gauge
Standard three-piece matches clear tiles but do not charge the circular Rainbow Blast gauge. The meter fills only when you detonate explosive power-ups created from matches of four or more pieces.
| Explosive Type | Match Requirement | Charge Contribution |
|---|---|---|
| Firecracker | 4 pieces in a straight line | Low |
| Bomb | 5 pieces in a T- or L-shape | Medium |
| Dynamite | 6 pieces in a line or T-shape | High |
| TNT / Keg | 7 or more pieces matched together | Very High |
Once the gauge fills completely, a Rainbow Blast automatically appears on an accessible random tile. Any additional charge generated while filling the meter overflows into the next Rainbow Blast gauge, allowing you to build multiple blasts over successive turns.
Using Single Rainbow Blasts
Swapping a single Rainbow Blast with an adjacent colored piece instantly clears every tile of that color from the board.
- Target the dominant color: Scan the board before moving. Removing the color with the highest tile count clears maximum space and causes a heavy tile cascade.
- Prioritize obstacle-adjacent pieces: If wooden crates, ice, or blockers are clustered around a specific color, targeting that color damages or frees those spaces immediately.
- Collect level goals directly: When objectives require collecting apples, leaves, water droplets, or flowers, swap the Rainbow Blast directly into that target item to clear large quotas in a single turn.
- Avoid low-count colors: Swapping a Rainbow Blast into a color that appears only three or four times across the board wastes the charge and creates minimal board movement.
Combining Rainbow Blasts with Explosives
When a Rainbow Blast sits adjacent to an explosive power-up, swapping them together creates a board-wide conversion:
- Swapping a Rainbow Blast with an adjacent Bomb or Firecracker converts every tile matching the swapped piece's color into a duplicate of that explosive.
- All newly created explosives detonate simultaneously across the grid.
- Take care not to tap or trigger nearby explosives accidentally before completing the swap, as losing the adjacent explosive forfeits the board conversion.
Setting Up Double Rainbow Blast Combos
Swapping two adjacent Rainbow Blasts together triggers a full-screen shockwave. This combination clears every standard colored piece on the board and removes one complete layer from hit-based obstacles, wooden crates, and dirt tiles.
- Match underneath to drop pairs: If you have one Rainbow Blast in play, create matches in the lower rows beneath it to drop it into alignment with a second blast.
- Protect adjacent tiles: Avoid detonating rogue Firecrackers or Bombs directly next to an isolated Rainbow Blast if you are attempting to guide a second blast beside it.
- Hold lone blasts when close: If your gauge is nearly full and can produce a second Rainbow Blast within two to three turns, hold the first blast to assemble the pair.
- Account for multi-layer goals: While a double Rainbow Blast strips one layer from every obstacle, it will not fully uncover buried objectives like gnomes that require multiple hits. Check your remaining move count and objective layers before committing both blasts.
Triggering Low-Move Chain Reactions
When you have five or fewer moves remaining—or need a clutch clear on your final move—use Rainbow Blasts and explosives to trigger self-sustaining chain reactions:
- Clear the lower third: Make your power-up moves in the bottom rows of the grid. Clearing the base forces the maximum number of pieces from above to fall, dramatically increasing the odds of automatic matches and free explosive spawns.
- Detonate cluster points: If a Rainbow Blast sits near regular explosives, clearing the dominant color around them collapses the board, often triggering the remaining explosives automatically during the cascade.

Nice guide. I am checking the other Gardenscapes articles next.
Good guide for Gardenscapes players. The strategy part was useful.
This saved me time in the early game.
The explanation is clear, especially for beginners.
