To create a TNT booster in Gardenscapes, match six tiles of the same color in a single move using an intersecting shape such as a T, an L, or a plus sign. Detonating a TNT clears standard pieces and damages obstacles within a three-tile radius while rapidly filling your Rainbow Blast meter.

How to Create TNT Boosters

TNT forms when six matching pieces connect at an intersection rather than in a straight line. Because natural six-piece setups are uncommon on crowded boards, creating TNT requires positioning adjacent tiles deliberately:

  • Look for two parallel pairs of identical pieces separated by a one-tile gap.
  • Align a matching piece in a perpendicular row or column to drop into the intersection.
  • Avoid making quick three-piece matches nearby if they disrupt the pieces you need to complete the six-tile structure.

Forming TNT directly on the board provides high clearing power without spending coins or consuming your pre-level inventory.

Blast Radius Comparison

Every explosive in Gardenscapes requires a specific match size, clears a distinct area, and awards progress toward the Rainbow Blast gauge.

Booster TypeMatch RequirementBlast RadiusRainbow Blast Gain
Firecracker4 matching tiles1 tile (cross pattern)Low
Bomb5 matching tiles2 tiles (circular area)Moderate
TNT6 matching tiles3 tiles (wide sphere)High
Dynamite7 matching tiles4 tiles (massive blast)Very high

Because TNT covers three tiles outward, placing the blast in the center of multi-hit obstacles—such as wooden crates, stone blocks, and ivy—damages multiple layers across the entire cluster at once.

Maximizing TNT Board Impact

To get the full value from each TNT booster, factor in board position and adjacent power-ups before activating it.

Avoid Board Edges and Corners

Detonating TNT along the outer border or in a corner wastes a large portion of its blast radius on empty space outside the grid. When possible, swap the booster one tile inward toward the board center before triggering it to hit the maximum number of pieces and obstacles.

Detonate Low to Trigger Cascades

Whenever safe, let TNT drop toward the bottom of the board before setting it off. Bottom-row explosions remove foundational pieces, triggering extended tile cascades from above. These cascades regularly create automatic matches and spawn additional boosters without using extra moves.

However, detonate immediately if:

  • Falling tiles risk triggering the TNT prematurely in an unhelpful spot.
  • Moving the TNT downward requires more turns than the resulting cascade is worth.
  • Blockers or narrow channels prevent new pieces from entering the board until the obstacle is removed.

Combine with Adjacent Boosters

Detonating a TNT adjacent to a Firecracker, Bomb, or second TNT triggers a chain reaction that expands the total blast area and frequently charges a complete Rainbow Blast in a single turn. Swapping the TNT directly into another booster creates an immediate combined detonation, sweeping away obstacles across most of the board.
