To defeat Novia in the Katovic questline of Granado Espada M, switch off full auto-combat, spread your 3MCC squad into a triangular formation around the arena, equip gear with Ice Resistance and Magic Defense, and destroy her spawned ice adds immediately. Novia punishes stacked squads by inflicting lethal overlapping area-of-effect (AoE) frost spells and stacking freeze debuffs that lock characters out of actions and healing.

Squad Composition and Roles

Succeeding against Novia requires a balanced 3MCC team rather than an all-damage setup. Ranged attackers and fire-element stance users are more effective than melee damage dealers because they can attack from outside her central blizzard radius.

SlotRole ArchetypePrimary Encounter Responsibility
Slot 1 (Frontline)High Magic Defense Tank / BruiserTurn Novia away from the squad, absorb directed ice spears, and hold aggro.
Slot 2 (Support)Cleansing Healer / BufferRemove frost debuffs, apply magic defense shields, and restore party health.
Slot 3 (DPS)Ranged Physical or Fire-Attuned DPSDeal damage outside the blizzard aura and quickly destroy spawned targets.

Your tank must have enough magic defense and health to survive continuous ice strikes. If the tank falls, Novia will target the support and wipe the team. Your support must have debuff removal to cure frost stacks before characters freeze completely.

Manual Positioning Strategy

Auto-pathing routes characters directly into hazard circles, which quickly leads to a wipe. Set your MCC controls to manual or semi-manual to keep your squad spaced around the boss:

  1. Turn the Boss: Move your tank forward immediately to gain threat and turn Novia so her back faces the center of the room.
  2. Form a Triangle: Send your healer and DPS to opposite sides behind or to the flanks of the boss, far outside her point-blank frost aura.
  3. Dodge Telegraphed AoEs: When ground markers appear, take manual control of targeted characters and step out of the blizzard zone. Never move your support and DPS along the same path, or trailing ice blasts will hit both.

Gear and Item Preparation

Novia's damage is primarily magical frost, rendering standard physical armor ineffective. Prioritize the following stats and consumables before entering the instance:

  • Stat Priorities: Equip armor and accessories featuring Ice Resistance, Magic Defense, and Maximum HP. High elemental resistance reduces the tick damage of unavoidable snowstorms.
  • Resistance Potions: Drink elemental resistance potions prior to the encounter to soften burst damage.
  • Cleanse Items: Place status-cleansing items on your hotbar to remove freeze effects if your healer is caught in an ice blast.
  • Resurrection Items: Save instant revival items for emergency recoveries on your tank or healer rather than using them during minor positioning errors.

Phase Strategy

The encounter consists of three distinct phases based on Novia's remaining health:

  • Phase 1 (100% to 70% HP): Establish aggro with your tank and separate your squad members into their triangular positions. Watch the cadence of her ground telegraphs and keep characters clear of ice zones.
  • Phase 2 (70% to 30% HP): Novia casts skills more frequently and spawns localized ice crystals and secondary adds. Immediately switch your primary DPS to destroy these spawns. Left unattended, they emit tethering debuffs that slow your party's movement speed and prevent you from dodging her attacks.
  • Phase 3 (30% to 0% HP): Novia triggers near-constant environmental frost storms. Do not attempt to kite the boss during this phase. Activate party-wide shields, keep your frontline healed, and spend your highest-damage stance skills to burn down her remaining health before freeze stacks overwhelm the squad.
