Drafting Mech Hunter in Hearthstone Arena is an all-or-nothing strategy that fails unless you draft premium anchor cards early. Without high-impact generators like Tank Regiment, the archetype quickly suffers from card starvation, weak standalone stats, and an inability to regain tempo once you fall behind on board.

To pilot the archetype successfully, secure sticky board anchors before committing to tribal buffs, manage your Magnetic positioning carefully, and pivot to standalone midrange picks if synergy pieces do not appear early in the draft.

Mandatory Draft Anchors and Synergy Roles

Mech decks in Arena require a critical mass of both sticky bodies and Magnetic payoffs. Low-cost Mechs often have defensive stat distributions or below-average stat totals to balance out Magnetic mechanics. Playing un-magnetized utility units onto an empty board concedes tempo, and Hunter's Steady Shot Hero Power cannot interact with enemy minions to help you stabilize.

Tank Regiment is the primary anchor card required to make this archetype function, providing multiple Mech bodies to guarantee Magnetic targets on subsequent turns.

Magnetic Positioning Rules

The Magnetic keyword allows you to choose between stacking stats onto an existing unit or expanding your board:

  • Playing to the left: Fuses the card with the adjacent Mech. The combined unit merges stats and keywords. It can attack immediately if the original base Mech was already active on the board that turn.
  • Playing to the right: Summons the card as a separate, standalone minion with summoning sickness.

When to Fuse Mechs

Magnetize onto an active Mech when you need to make an immediate, favorable trade into a high-priority minion without losing your unit. Stacking stats is also correct when the resulting health total pushes your minion out of reach of damage-based removal spells or establishes a fast two-turn lethal clock against an opponent with limited answers.

When to Play Separate Minions

Summon your Mechs as separate units to the right when facing classes equipped with hard removal, transform effects, or Silence—such as Priest, Shaman, or Mage. Stacking all your resources onto a single magnetized minion exposes your board to a complete blowout from a single removal spell, which leaves your side of the board empty.

Managing Hand Size and Over-Commitment

Because magnetizing combines multiple cards into a single board target, Mech decks trade card advantage for immediate board tempo. If an opponent clears your magnetized threat with a single card or large Taunt, Hunter has few natural class options to refill an empty hand.

To avoid running out of cards:

  • Draft Discovery cards: Gorillabot A-3 provides extra resources while continuing your tribal curve.
  • Preserve resources: Do not magnetize extra stats onto a minion that already controls the board. Keep secondary Mechs in your hand to rebuild if the opponent wipes your active board.
  • Pick high-tempo standalone minions: Draft solid curve cards even if they lack the Mech tag so you can contest the board when synergy draws miss.

When to Abandon the Mech Plan

Evaluate your deck's synergy potential early in the draft:

  1. Check your core by pick 10: If you have not drafted Tank Regiment or reliable token generators within the first 10 to 15 picks, stop drafting dependent Magnetic cards.
  2. Treat isolated Mechs as tempo cards: Any Mechs drafted without follow-up synergies must be evaluated purely on their standalone stats and curve utility.
  3. Pivot to standard Hunter priorities: Use your remaining picks on efficient Beasts, direct damage spells, weapons, and reliable midrange curve minions. A cohesive deck of good standalone cards will perform far more reliably than an incomplete Mech package.
