To scale stats with Deep Blues in Hearthstone Battlegrounds, pair Deep Blues Singer with Zesty Shaker during the mid-game shop phases and cast your generated Spellcraft cards onto Zesty Shaker before buffing any other minion. This duplicates the spell, ramps your global buff counter multiple times per turn, and generates high stats that you can then lock in or amplify using dedicated combat anchors.
How the Deep Blues and Zesty Shaker Engine Works
Deep Blues Singer generates a Spellcraft card each turn that grants temporary stats. Every time any Deep Blues spell is cast, the baseline buff of all future Deep Blues cards permanently increases by +1/+1. Cast on its own, a single Deep Blues Singer scales too slowly to keep pace with late-game lobbies.
Zesty Shaker solves this bottleneck by giving you a copy of the first Spellcraft spell cast on it each turn.
- Base Zesty Shaker: Generates one extra copy of the first Spellcraft spell played on it.
- Golden Zesty Shaker: Generates two extra copies of the first Spellcraft spell played on it.
Each duplicated Deep Blues spell you cast triggers the permanent +1/+1 ramp on future casts. Running multiple Shakers or a golden Shaker allows your Deep Blues counter to scale by several points each turn instead of just one.
Turn Sequencing: Maximizing Spell Duplication
Because Zesty Shaker only triggers on the first Spellcraft spell cast on it each turn, casting an unrelated spell or targeting another minion first wastes that turn's duplication.
Execute each shop phase in this order:
- Collect your starting spell: Take the initial Deep Blues card generated at the start of your turn.
- Buff Zesty Shaker first: Cast your Deep Blues directly onto your primary Zesty Shaker to trigger the duplicate copy. If you control a second Zesty Shaker, cast a Deep Blues on it next.
- Cast duplicated spells: Play the newly generated copies to continue raising the baseline counter on Deep Blues Singer.
- Buff combat anchors: Apply the remaining Spellcraft cards to your designated combat units, permanent stat holders, or Taunt minions.
Note on hand management: Hearthstone enforces a 10-card hand limit. Avoid holding unnecessary Tavern spells or economy cards between turns so that newly generated Spellcraft cards are not burned.
Preserving Stats: Lava Lurker and Corrupted Myrmidon
Deep Blues buffs expire at the end of combat by default. To build lasting board power and avoid resetting every round, distribute your inflated spells onto specific Naga anchors.
| Minion | Core Mechanic | Interaction with Deep Blues | Primary Limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zesty Shaker | Clones the first Spellcraft played on it | Multiplies casts to accelerate stat growth | Buffs expire after combat |
| Lava Lurker | First Spellcraft each turn is permanent | Permanently retains high-value Deep Blues buffs | Only retains one spell per turn |
| Corrupted Myrmidon | Doubles total stats at start of combat | Doubles massive temporary buffs during combat | Resets to base stats after combat |
Once your Deep Blues counter provides substantial numbers, target Lava Lurker with your first spare buff each round to build permanent health and attack. For raw immediate tempo, target Corrupted Myrmidon, which doubles its total stats at the start of combat to convert large temporary buffs into massive attack and health pools.
Tavern Tier Timing and Roll Strategy
The core pieces for this strategy reside on Tier 3 and Tier 4. Leveling aggressively to Tier 5 or Tier 6 too early dilutes the minion pool and reduces your odds of finding pairs.
- Stay on Tier 4: Roll on Tier 4 until you assemble your core pieces and secure a golden Zesty Shaker or golden Deep Blues Singer.
- Level to Tier 5 or 6 later: Advance only after your baseline scaling wins rounds reliably and you need high-tier tech pieces—such as Drakkari Enchanter or utility units—to close out the late game.
Positioning Against Late-Game Scam Units
Because this build concentrates high stats onto a few primary attackers like Lava Lurker or Corrupted Myrmidon, it is vulnerable to single-target removal like Venomous minions or Leeroy the Reckless.
To protect your stat investments:
- Place smaller utility minions or Divine Shield units on the far left of your board to attack first, popping enemy Divine Shields and absorbing Venomous hits.
- Position your largest anchors toward the middle or back of your attack order so they swing after opposing scam units are cleared.
- In the final rounds, consider selling off an un-buffed Deep Blues Singer to make room for Divine Shield tech or utility Taunts tailored to your opponent's lineup.

This helped me understand strategy much better.
Can you add more details about strategy in a future update?
I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
Nice guide. I am checking the other Hearthstone articles next.
