To pilot Imbue Evolve Shaman effectively on the Hearthstone Standard ladder, prioritize low-cost token generators during the opening mulligan and build board width across the first three turns. Early board dominance allows you to push face damage, rapidly discount Sea Giant, and set up decisive transformation turns with Wave of Nostalgia and Carefree Cookie before opponents draw into defensive sweepers.

Mulligan Priorities

Always keep proactive one-cost cards to guarantee a play on turn one. Missing early drops surrenders board initiative and leaves your mid-game transformation payoffs stranded without targets.

  • Always Keep: Miracle Salesman and Pop-Up Book. Miracle Salesman puts a 2/2 body on the board immediately and banks a Snake Oil for future cycle. Pop-Up Book removes an opposing early threat while generating two Piranha Swarmers.
  • Keep with an Active One-Drop: Cactus Cutter and Trusty Companion. Cactus Cutter contests the board while tutoring key spells like Wave of Nostalgia. Trusty Companion draws synergistic minions once you establish a board tribe.
  • Situational Keeps: Keep Sea Giant against board-flooding mirror matchups or aggressive token decks where total minion counts escalate quickly. Keep Backstage Bouncer when holding The Coin against midrange decks to demand inefficient early trades.
  • Always Toss: High-cost payoffs such as Wave of Nostalgia and Golganneth, the Thunderer. Keeping five- or six-mana cards in your opening hand ruins your curve and risks leaving your board empty by turn four.

Early-Game Curve and Sequencing

Your opening plays determine the mana discount on your mid-game threats. Sequence early turns to maximize the number of friendly minions on the battlefield rather than trading tokens unnecessarily.

  1. Turn 1: Play Miracle Salesman to establish immediate pressure and contest opposing 1/1 or 2/1 minions. If holding The Coin and Pop-Up Book, assess whether you need to answer an immediate enemy threat or hold The Coin to smooth out turns two and three.
  2. Turn 2: Develop additional bodies. When holding The Coin, you can double-drop two-cost minions or deploy Pop-Up Book alongside a Totem Hero Power to accelerate your board count.
  3. Turn 3: Expand board width. Direct small 1/1 tokens at the opponent's face unless an opposing minion poses an immediate lethal or snowball threat. Use Pop-Up Book to clear priority targets while adding Piranha Swarmers to your side.

Mid-Game Swings and Transformations

Once you establish a wide board, transition into high-tempo threats that opponents cannot efficiently clear in a single turn.

  • Deploying Sea Giant: Each minion on either side of the board reduces Sea Giant's cost by one mana. Dropping an 8/8 Sea Giant on turn four or five alongside several small tokens breaks opposing removal math, forcing opponents to spend single-target spells on the giant while leaving your tokens intact.
  • Trading with Carefree Cookie: Position Carefree Cookie behind your token swarm. Carefree Cookie evolves friendly minions into higher-tier threats when they survive trades, turning damaged attackers into full-health upgrades while wiping enemy minions off the board.
  • Timing Wave of Nostalgia: Wave of Nostalgia transforms every minion on the battlefield into a random Legendary minion that costs one more mana. Always trade off low-health tokens that would die anyway before casting it, ensuring your remaining surviving minions evolve into fresh Legendary threats.
  • Neutralizing Enemy Buffs: Wave of Nostalgia also targets enemy minions. Use it against opponents relying on heavily buffed minions, Deathrattle packages, or Reborn mechanics to strip away their keywords and card text.

Managing Sweepers and Hand Refill

Overcommitting your entire hand into predictable area-of-effect removal will stall your momentum against control archetypes like Death Knight, Priest, and Warrior.

  • Stagger Token Generation: Avoid emptying your hand onto the board if your existing minions already force an answer from the opponent. Retain follow-up token generators to rebuild immediately after a board clear.
  • Adapting with Thrall's Gift: Use Thrall's Gift to adjust to match conditions. Choose Bloodlust to secure lethal damage when a wide board goes unanswered, or pick Hex to bypass a massive Taunt minion blocking your lethal attack.
