In Hearthstone Armor Warrior, never play Risky Skipper or Armorsmith onto an empty board without immediate follow-up. A standalone Skipper or Armorsmith on early turns is easily removed, throwing away your main defensive engine. Instead, bank these cards in hand until Turn 3 or later, deploying them in a single turn to trigger multiple area-of-effect damage waves that clear opposing minions and generate double-digit armor.

Turn Sequencing for Skipper and Armorsmith

Risky Skipper deals one damage to all minions whenever you play a minion from your hand. Armorsmith grants one armor whenever any friendly minion takes damage. Because Risky Skipper triggers after a new minion enters the battlefield, playing cards in the wrong order will waste armor triggers or kill your own units prematurely.

Follow this sequence to maximize armor and board clears:

  1. Play Risky Skipper first: Entering the board establishes its passive ability without triggering a damage wave on itself.
  2. Play Armorsmith second: Playing Armorsmith triggers Risky Skipper, dealing one damage to both minions and generating an initial two armor.
  3. Play additional cheap minions: Each subsequent minion played triggers another Skipper wave. Every wave damages all surviving friendly minions, multiplying your armor gain per Armorsmith on the field.
  4. Use your Hero Power last: If you have two leftover mana and no more minions to play, use Armor Up to gain an extra two armor.

Bloodsworn Mercenary Cloning Priorities

Bloodsworn Mercenary costs three mana and summons a copy of a damaged friendly minion. Because your combo sequence damages your own board, you can target either piece depending on the match state:

  • Copying Armorsmith: Choose this against aggressive swarm decks. Doubling your Armorsmiths doubles the armor gained from every subsequent minion you play that turn, quickly lifting your life total out of lethal reach.
  • Copying Risky Skipper: Choose this when facing mid-sized boards where enemy minions have 3 or 4 health. Two Skippers deal two damage per minion played. Be aware that this also accelerates damage to your own board, reducing how many total minions you can deploy before your Armorsmiths die.

Before playing Bloodsworn Mercenary, ensure your intended target has at least two health remaining so it does not die to incidental damage before the copy resolves.

Refueling Hand Size with Battle Rage

The main risk of a multi-card Skipper turn is depleting your hand. Battle Rage costs two mana and draws one card for each damaged friendly character, including your hero.

  • Cast Battle Rage at the end of the turn: Never play Battle Rage before your Skipper damage waves or minion trades have resolved.
  • Count damaged friendly targets: Total your surviving damaged minions plus your hero. A damaged hero, a damaged Skipper, and two damaged Armorsmiths will draw four cards for two mana.
  • Damage your hero intentionally if needed: If your hero remains at full health prior to casting Battle Rage, attack an enemy minion with a weapon first to guarantee an extra card draw.

Managing Removal Options

Once a combo turn yields high armor totals, use Shield Slam to eliminate high-health enemy minions or taunts that survived the Skipper pings. Avoid spending Shield Slam on low-health targets that can be traded down. If the opponent establishes a tall board with multiple high-health threats that Risky Skipper cannot clear, use Brawl or Bladestorm instead. Saving your Skipper and Armorsmith pieces allows you to rebuild your armor pool on a later turn.
