To win with C'Thun Demon Hunter in Hearthstone, pilot the deck as a fast combo engine: survive early aggression, locate and cast all four 5-mana C'Thun spells, draw the completed 10-mana C'Thun the Shattered, and cast it to deal 30 split damage to the enemy. Demon Hunter's aggressive card draw and Outcast discounts accelerate this assembly far faster than traditional control decks.

The Four C'Thun Pieces

At the start of the match, C'Thun the Shattered breaks into four 5-mana spells shuffled into your deck. Casting the fourth spell creates the completed 10-mana 30/30 C'Thun the Shattered and shuffles it into your deck.

C'Thun PieceMana CostCard EffectPrimary Tactical Role
Eye of C'Thun5 ManaDeal 7 damage randomly split among all enemiesSoftens wide boards or applies direct face damage
Body of C'Thun5 ManaSummon a 6/6 Body of C'Thun with TauntHalts mid-game minion attacks and protects your hero
Maw of C'Thun5 ManaDestroy a random enemy minionEliminates an isolated tall threat
Heart of C'Thun5 ManaDeal 3 damage to all minionsWipes low-health aggressive boards symmetrically

Because casting a 5-mana spell offers limited immediate board presence, sequence them reactively. Play Body of C'Thun when you need a physical Taunt wall, use Heart of C'Thun to clear token boards, and save Maw of C'Thun for turns when the opponent controls a single high-value minion so the random destruction cannot miss.

Cycling and Hand Management

Your main objective from turns one through seven is aggressively thinning your deck to put the pieces into your hand.

  1. Maintain Outcast positioning: Demon Hunter draw engines require careful hand management. Play cards from the extreme left or right of your hand to cycle cheap cards like Crimson Sigil Runner, Felosophy, and Spectral Sight.
  2. Tutor key spells: Cast Double Jump to pull specific Outcast spells from your deck to maintain a fluid curve.
  3. Discount high-cost cards with Skull of Gul'dan: Play Skull of Gul'dan from an Outcast position to draw three cards and reduce each of their costs by 3 mana. Hitting a 5-mana C'Thun piece reduces it to 2 mana, allowing you to cast multiple pieces in a single turn alongside defensive spells.
  4. Dig for missing components: Use Acrobatics and Chaos Strike to cycle through remaining cards once your mana pool expands.

Surviving Mid-Game Pressure

Because C'Thun spells do not restore your health, rely on Demon Hunter's removal and Lifesteal tools to stay alive until the combo is ready.

  • Board sweeps: Deploy Immolation Aura in the early turns or Chaos Nova in the mid-game to reset aggressive token boards.
  • Lifesteal healing: Equip Aldrachi Warblades and combine attacks with Chaos Strike, Relentless Pursuit, or the Demon Claws Hero Power to clear enemy minions while restoring large amounts of health.
  • Reactive removal: Use Eye Beam from the Outcast position as a 0-mana removal spell that deals 3 damage and restores 3 health to your hero. Preserve your weapon durability for healing rather than attacking the enemy hero directly.

Unleashing C'Thun and Beating Disruption

C'Thun the Shattered costs 10 mana and triggers a Battlecry that deals 30 damage split randomly across all enemies. To ensure an immediate victory:

  • Clear the opposing board first: Any enemy minions present will absorb portions of C'Thun's 30 damage. Clear opposing threats with remaining spells or hero attacks before dropping C'Thun onto an empty board for 30 direct face damage.
  • Counter hand disruption: Decks running Mutanus the Devourer or Dirty Rat aim to pull C'Thun from your hand before you can cast it. To counter this, empty your deck before playing your fourth spell piece. When your deck has zero cards remaining, the fourth piece shuffles C'Thun into an empty library, letting you draw it immediately and cast it on the same or next turn without giving the opponent an opening to disrupt your hand.
