Deploy Anubis (God of Judgment) as a frontline off-tank disrupter to shut down resurrection engines and alter team numbers through mummy summons. His entire tactical value depends on remaining alive: if Anubis falls, his anti-revive suppression ends, and your squad loses its summoned frontline buffers.

Combat Mechanics and Anti-Revive Utility

Anubis serves as a control anchor rather than a primary damage dealer. His presence imposes death-state restrictions across the battlefield:

  • Revive Suppression: While Anubis remains on the field, his passive suppresses standard self-revival mechanics. Opponents such as Phoenix or Sophia cannot cleanly trigger their recovery loops, preventing stall teams from resetting their health or ultimate meters.
  • Corpse Denial and Mummy Summons: When any unit dies, Anubis replaces that empty slot with a summoned mummy. This minion absorbs single-target abilities, disrupts area-of-effect targeting paths, and wastes enemy attack turns. Filling the slot also denies necromancy-style revive skills from claiming the position.
  • Survival Dependency: Anubis possesses built-in damage mitigation and crowd control resilience, but his control aura is tied directly to his life. If high-burst opponents eliminate him in the opening round, his passive lock disappears and enemy revive engines resume.

Because his summoning engine requires units to die, Anubis must be paired with at least one high-velocity burst damage dealer who can secure an elimination in the first or second round. Without an early kill, Anubis cannot generate summons and functions only as a damage sponge.

Grid Positioning and Turn Order

In standard six-hero formations, place Anubis in Slot 2 or Slot 3. Positioning him here prevents him from taking the direct brunt of concentrated Slot 1 attacks while still allowing him to protect backline damage dealers.

  • Slot 1 (Main Tank): Absorbs dedicated opening hits.
  • Slot 2 or 3 (Anubis): Acts as off-tank disrupter, maintaining his presence safely into mid-round trades.
  • Backline Slots 4–6: Reserved for primary burst carries, healers, and buffers.

Speed tuning should place Anubis right after your primary shield-breaker or defense debuffer, but ahead of enemy mid-speed supports. He should not be built as an absolute first-turn opener over dedicated speed controllers, but he needs enough speed to activate his domain before opposing carries cycle their first round of ultimate abilities.

Matchup Breakdown

Deploy Anubis selectively based on the opposing squad's primary win condition.

Opposing Matchup ArchetypeTactical AdvantageStrategic Interaction
Resurrection StallStrongly FavoredDisables Phoenix and Sophia revive engines; prevents protracted matches.
Debuff / AttritionFavoredHigh baseline resilience resists chip damage; mummies absorb spread hits.
Control / Energy DrainSituationalRequires cleanse support to guarantee domain and active skill deployment.
Pure Speed-Cleave BurstUnfavoredRisk of being eliminated in Round 1 before securing kills to trigger mummies.

When entering matches against fast burst lineups, pair Anubis with damage-sharing tanks or emergency shield artifacts to guarantee he survives past Round 1.

Stat, Rune, and Artifact Priorities

Invest exclusively in Effective HP (EHP) and survivability. Avoid offensive attributes like Critical Hit Rate and Critical Damage, as Anubis deals negligible burst damage and loses his mechanical value if he dies early.

  • Primary Rune Sets: Evolution or Guardian to maximize percentage damage reduction and total health pools.
  • Key Subrolls: Damage Reduction %, HP %, Effect Resistance, and sufficient Speed to outpace opposing supports.
  • Artifact Selection: Defensive artifacts that grant shields, temporary invulnerability, or high damage reduction when falling below critical health thresholds.
