To build an effective early combat Mage in IdleOn - Idle RPG, invest enough secondary Agility to hit 100% monster accuracy, dump all remaining attribute points into Wisdom, and unlock your two primary Tab 2 attack spells immediately. Splitting your character into separate combat and chopping presets ensures high AFK kill rates without stalling your account's wood supply.

Stat Priorities and Accuracy Checks

Wisdom (WIS) is your primary damage stat and scales both your magic attack power and Woodcutting efficiency. However, missing attacks heavily degrades both active clearing and AFK calculations. In IdleOn - Idle RPG, your hit chance must reach 100% for efficient farming.

Mages gain Accuracy primarily from Agility (AGI). Check your target zone's accuracy requirement in the AFK info tab before spending points:

  • Wisdom (WIS): Main stat. Invest here after meeting your zone's accuracy target to scale base magic damage and maximum mana.
  • Agility (AGI): Secondary stat. Add points through talents or gear only until your hit chance reaches 100% against your current grinding target.
  • Strength (STR): Minor health and mining utility. Skip on combat presets.
  • Luck (LUK): Drop rate and minor critical stats. Skip during early-game combat progression.

Tab 1 Combat Talent Order

Tab 1 establishes baseline weapon scaling and damage multipliers. Prioritize flat Weapon Power and percentage increases over raw stats during your first twenty levels, as stat points yield lower returns before your base damage is established.

Talent NamePrimary FunctionAllocation Priority
Sharpened AxeAdds flat Weapon PowerMaximize first to scale all magical attacks.
Gilded SwordIncreases total damage by a percentageBring to 20–30 points early; max after base power is set.
Quickness BootsGrants flat AgilityAllocate points only when needing Accuracy for the next zone.
Book of the WiseIncreases flat and percentage WisdomDump excess points here after establishing Weapon Power.
Meat ShankAdds health and health-scaled damageInvest 5–10 points if surviving hits from mobs like Walking Sticks.

Avoid putting combat points into idle or drop-rate utility talents in Tab 1 while pushing map portals.

Tab 2 Talent Priority and Attack Bar Setup

Promoting to Mage unlocks Tab 2. The combat engine includes slotted attack spells when calculating offline AFK kills per hour, making immediate access to active abilities essential.

Follow this progression order when spending Tab 2 points:

  1. Energy Bolt (Level 1): Unlocks your fast, single-target projectile spell.
  2. Mini Fireball (Level 1): Unlocks your piercing, multi-target burst attack.
  3. Power Overflow (Level 25+): Multiplies your damage based on your current maximum mana pool.
  4. Knowledge is Power (Level 20+): Grants bonus damage for every point of total WIS your character possesses.
  5. Spell Levels: Distribute remaining points evenly between Energy Bolt and Mini Fireball to increase their base burst damage.

Hotbar Configuration

The auto-attack feature triggers abilities sequentially from left to right on your hotbar. Place Energy Bolt in the first active slot and Mini Fireball in the second slot. This ensures your lowest cooldown spell fires immediately whenever it becomes available, preventing downtime between wand attacks.

Keep your weapon updated at the anvil. Upgrading from a basic starter weapon to a crafted copper or iron staff increases base weapon power and attack speed, accelerating your spell rotation.

Separating Combat and Woodcutting Presets

Do not build a hybrid Mage that attempts to chop trees and push monster portals on the same talent loadout. Hybrid builds lack the damage to clear maps efficiently and lack the efficiency to yield high-tier logs.

Once you unlock talent preset switching in town, separate your roles:

  • Combat Preset: Allocate points strictly into damage talents, active spells, and required accuracy. Equip your best staff and offensive gear to push portals and farm monster drops.
  • Chopping Preset: Omit attack spells entirely. Funnel points into Woodcutting talents such as Log Splitter, Choppin' It Up, and Leaf Thief to hit required log efficiency tiers and multi-log chances.

Switch presets whenever you change tasks to preserve Talent Reset Potions while keeping your combat progression and resource gathering optimized.
