To earn a 3-star victory in Kingdom Rush Frontiers, you must clear every enemy wave in a campaign stage without losing a single life at the exit. Achieving this requires concentrating your defenses around tight choke points, prioritizing tower upgrades over building extra low-tier structures, and actively positioning your hero and Reinforcement militia to prevent leaks.
Building Choke Point Defenses
Preventing leaks requires funneling enemies into narrow, highly defensible sections of the path rather than building isolated towers along the entire road.
- Identify standard junctions: Look for path segments where lanes converge or where adjacent build tiles directly overlook a narrow straightaway.
- Place blocking units directly on the track: Construct a Barracks on tiles adjacent to the junction to stop enemies directly in the kill zone.
- Fill surrounding tiles with ranged damage: Build Archer, Mage, or Artillery towers in adjacent pockets so they can continuously fire on stalled groups.
Tower Roles at Choke Points
| Tower Type | Primary Role at Choke Point | Target Priority |
|---|---|---|
| Barracks | Delays enemy movement; holds ground units in place. | Melee targets blocking the path |
| Mage | Strips armor and delivers high single-target or heavy damage. | High-health armored units |
| Archer | Delivers rapid physical damage at long range. | Fast-moving, unarmored units |
| Artillery | Deals area-of-effect physical damage to crowded groups. | Clustered low-to-medium health waves |
Position Mages near the front of a choke point to strip armor early, while placing Archers near the back to catch fast threats that break through your melee line.
Managing Gold and Tower Upgrades
Avoid building new low-level towers on secondary tiles early in a stage. Upgrading an existing, well-placed tower to tier 3 or tier 4 (such as upgrading Barracks to Templars or Knights) yields higher damage efficiency per gold spent than spreading low-tier buildings across multiple lanes.
- Initial Wave Allocation: Spend only enough gold at the start of a stage to establish your primary choke point.
- Banking for Key Tiers: Save mid-wave gold to rush high-tier upgrades rather than filling every empty build tile immediately.
- Targeted Upgrades: Save gold for specialized anti-air Archer upgrades when flying units appear, or high-penetration Mage upgrades when heavily armored foes approach.
Active Hero Positioning and Reinforcement Timing
Static defenses can fail when heavy waves arrive simultaneously. Use your hero and Reinforcements as active response tools to patch temporary gaps.
- Repositioning Your Hero: Move your hero between lanes as pressure shifts. If soldiers in one lane are losing health, move your hero to absorb hits or intercept enemies that leak past your primary junction.
- Timing Reinforcement Militia: Trigger your Reinforcements ability right before a heavy enemy wave reaches your main defensive line. Place the militia slightly in front of your Barracks soldiers to act as disposable health buffers, preventing your primary units from dying and letting fast enemies slip past.
If a specific wave breaks your defense, evaluate your tower layout on that lane. Replacing a low-impact tower or shifting your hero before the wave begins resolves most leaks without requiring structural changes to the rest of the map.

The tips are practical and easy to follow.
Good guide for Kingdom Rush players. The heroes part was useful.
I wish I had read this before upgrading the wrong thing.
