During the day, you can lay down towering walls, raise protecting towers, build farms, and recruit villagers, while exploration can reveal treasures and hidden knowledge that support your wider quest. Expanding and growing the kingdom also grants access to new units and technologies, giving your long-term decisions practical consequences as the settlement becomes more capable. Every improvement must serve the larger objective: creating enough strength, resources, and strategic reach to withstand the Greed and eventually attack the source of the threat.

Defense gives that expansion a clear purpose. When night falls, the monstrous Greed emerges to assault your kingdom and steal its treasures, requiring you to rally the forces you have prepared rather than rely on the Monarch alone. Archers, knights, siege weapons, Monarch abilities, and artifacts each contribute to holding against increasingly demanding waves, so the condition of your army matters before an attack begins. The game also makes conquest a deliberate risk. To secure an island, you send groups of soldiers against the source of the Greed, but an assault can fail if your troops are not sufficiently numerous or prepared. That makes exploration and construction more than optional activities: they are how you build the capacity to survive, push outward, and take the fight to the enemy. On PC, a larger display gives the side-scrolling landscape and your kingdom’s full defensive layout more room to read at once. You can more easily follow the relationship between walls, towers, farms, villagers, and approaching Greed, while also judging how far your Monarch must ride when shifting from construction to defense or exploration. Keyboard-and-mouse input is likewise useful during repeated kingdom-management decisions and urgent battlefield responses, letting you move through the broad scene, select the relevant area, and keep track of different troop groups without losing sight of the wider front.
