Winning battles in Kingshot requires balancing raw damage attributes with casualty conversion stats rather than stacking raw Attack. Attack and Defense set the initial damage exchange, but Lethality and Health determine how much of that damage translates into actual hospital debt or permanent troop losses.

To build effective marches, assign Health and Damage Reduction to your frontline infantry to prevent squad collapses, while focusing Lethality, Damage Dealt, and Attack on your backline damage dealers.

How Battle Calculation Layers Work

Combat in Kingshot does not resolve through a single total power score. Engagements calculate output across three sequential phases:

  1. The Raw Damage Phase: The attacking squad's Attack stat is weighed directly against the defending squad's Defense stat. This establishes baseline damage before casualty ratios are evaluated.
  2. The Casualty Conversion Phase: The attacker's Lethality is checked against the defender's Health (HP). Lethality determines how many defending units shift from lightly wounded into severe injuries or deaths. Health increases the damage threshold required to eliminate or hospitalize each soldier.
  3. The Multiplier Phase: Percentage-based modifiers (Damage Dealt % and Damage Reduction %) amplify or reduce the final calculated numbers after flat stat comparisons conclude.

Over-investing in Attack yields diminishing returns if your Lethality is too low to convert hits into decisive casualties. Similarly, stacking Defense without Health leaves squads vulnerable once incoming enemy Attack surpasses your baseline armor threshold.

The 10 Combat Stats in Kingshot

Battle reports, gear, and hero skills distribute bonuses across ten primary attributes. Each stat serves a specific tactical role depending on squad positioning and rally scale.

Stat NamePrimary FunctionCalculation PhaseOptimal Target
Troop AttackIncreases baseline damage output before mitigation checksRaw damagePvE hunting and baseline trades
Troop DefenseMitigates incoming baseline attack damageRaw damageSustained defensive engagements
Troop Health (HP)Increases the damage threshold needed to eliminate a unitCasualty conversionFrontline infantry survivability
Troop LethalityConverts dealt damage into severe wounds and killsCasualty conversionBackline damage dealers and PvP rallies

Individual unit stats apply directly to single squad marches, whereas Rally stats apply universally to all allied troops reinforcing an offensive rally or defensive garrison.

Why Lethality and Health Decide PvP Trades

In competitive PvP, engagements are won by draining an opponent's healing speedups and hospital capacity. Attack scales linearly against enemy Defense; once an opponent stacks high mitigation, additional Attack points provide marginal value.

Lethality changes trade efficiency by bypassing standard armor checks to dictate casualty severity. Higher Lethality forces enemy units past the lightly wounded threshold directly into the infirmary or the graveyard.

On defense, Health acts as an absolute buffer against burst damage. High Defense alone fails when facing heavy rallies, as overwhelming enemy Attack values can pierce basic mitigation thresholds. High Health ensures your frontline infantry stays alive longer. Because standard battles process targeting from front to back, keeping infantry standing gives mid-row cavalry and backline marksmen extra combat rounds to inflict uninterrupted damage.

Allocate your research, hero gear, and lord talents based on the specific mechanical needs of your troop types:

  • Infantry Squads: Prioritize Troop Health, followed by Troop Defense and Damage Reduction (%). Infantry exists to absorb hits; spending offensive stats on frontline units reduces your march's total effective health pool.
  • Cavalry and Ranged Squads: Prioritize Troop Lethality, followed by Damage Dealt (%) and Troop Attack. Damage dealers must inflict rapid, heavy casualties before the frontline collapses.
  • Rally Captains: Target Rally Lethality and universal Damage Dealt (%) on exclusive hero equipment and alliance research branches so reinforcing members inherit strong offensive multipliers.
  • Garrison Defenders: Focus gear talents and charms on Troop Health and Damage Reduction (%) to absorb coordinated enemy rally spikes.
