To survive enemy waves in Knightica, set up a staggered formation that places your durable frontline units ahead of your primary damage dealers. Pushing your tanks forward creates a buffer zone that pulls enemy targeting onto your healthiest troops, keeping backline units safe and clear to deal continuous damage.

Core Formation Rules

Avoid clustering your entire squad into a tight box. Spreading your units across the board forces incoming enemies to split up and path into specific frontline targets.

  • Advance the Frontline: Move heavy tanks to the outer edge of your deployment space to catch incoming mobs early.
  • Stagger Support Units: Keep ranged and specialized support units one to two tiles behind the main line so their line of sight remains open.
  • Prevent Swarming: If a wave attacks from multiple directions, widen your front line to avoid getting surrounded on a single flank.

Using Map Terrain and Obstacles

Board layouts often include physical barriers that limit how enemies can move. You can use these map elements to restrict incoming damage and increase unit efficiency.

  • Funnel Swarms Through Chokepoints: Position tanks at narrow passages so enemies must approach one at a time. This concentrates enemy groups, making area-of-effect skills far more effective.
  • Anchor Against Obstacles: Place high-priority defense units with their backs against wall tiles or obstacles. This reduces the number of open sides enemies can attack from.

Isolating High-Value Enemies

When facing boss monsters or heavy melee threats, use body-blocking to isolate them from weaker mobs.

  1. Anchor the Threat: Position a tank directly in the path of the dangerous enemy unit so it locks onto the tank.
  2. Form a Firing Line: Line up your ranged damage dealers to target the anchored elite unit without drawing its aggro.
  3. Adjust Spacing: If damage dealers get stuck behind tanks and cannot attack, move the frontline forward or sideways by one tile to clear pathing lines.

Defensive Trade-offs

A wider, aggressive formation provides better target control, but it increases the distance support units must cover to heal or buff frontline troops. If long-range enemy casters or snipers spawn, contract your formation slightly to keep support units within range of vulnerable targets.
