To build an invincible formation in LastCampDefense, arrange your units into three layered zones between incoming enemy spawn points and your central campfire. Position durable tanks at narrow chokepoints two to three tiles ahead of your light boundary, place crowd control and aura supports in the middle lane, and cluster high-burst damage dealers tightly around the campfire.
Core Formation Structure
Do not scatter defenders across the map. Spreading units dilutes attack power and lets fast enemies slip past your outer lines. Compressing your units into a structured corridor funnels waves into concentrated kill zones where all defenders can strike together.
| Formation Layer | Unit Role | Placement | Primary Objective |
|---|---|---|---|
| Frontline | High-durability tanks and barricades | Outer chokepoint | Absorb initial skill hits and halt enemy forward momentum |
| Midline | Crowd controllers and buffer supports | Directly behind the frontline | Stun, slow, and keep enemies clustered in illuminated ground |
| Backline | Area-of-effect (AoE) and single-target DPS | Tight cluster around the campfire | Melt grouped swarms and eliminate high-health elite targets |
Frontline Anchoring and Crowd Control
Your frontline must stop incoming momentum instantly so monsters cannot cleave into fragile ranged units.
- Catch chargers early: Place your heaviest defenders at the narrowest entry threshold to intercept charging enemies before they reach full movement speed.
- Stagger crowd control skills: Stagger stuns, freezes, and slows rather than triggering them simultaneously. Continuous interruption prevents monsters from swinging while your skills cycle off cooldown.
- Use knockback resets: Apply knockback abilities to shove grouped mobs backward, extending the time your backline has to deal damage safely.
Midline Support and Illumination
The midline bridges your tank line and backline shooters, serving as an aura hub and safety net.
- Maximize aura coverage: Place support units with attack speed or damage auras in the center of the formation so their buff radiuses reach both your frontline tanks and your backline carries.
- Fight inside the light: Monsters lingering outside the campfire's illumination radius take reduced damage and move faster in high-difficulty modes. Anchor the frontline so that trapped enemies remain fully within the campfire light.
- Keep an emergency fallback: Leave space in the midline for reactive traps or secondary barricades in case an elite enemy breaks the forward anchor.
Backline DPS Positioning and Wave Adjustments
Keep fragile damage dealers tightly grouped around the campfire perimeter. Placing glass-cannon units on outer edges leaves them vulnerable to stealth spawns and flanking strikes.
- Pair splash damage with boss killers: Position wide AoE attackers to clear the tightly packed swarms at the frontline choke, and place single-target snipers next to them to burn down tough mini-bosses.
- Prioritize upgrade spending: Early in a run, invest resources into your primary AoE damage dealer and your main frontline tank. Delay heavy investment in support units until your damage check comfortably clears baseline waves.
- Adjust for boss encounters: Before boss waves with wide cleave attacks, pull secondary melee units back into the midline. Let only your primary tank absorb frontal cone attacks while your ranged carries focus the boss down from safety.

Can you add more details about strategy in a future update?
I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
This helped me understand strategy much better.
Nice guide. I am checking the other LastCampDefense articles next.
