To clear challenging stages and maintain three-star ratings in Lordrush, turn off auto-combat and trigger your hero abilities manually. Automated combat frequently spends high-impact skill cooldowns on weak, low-health targets. Controlling your skill timing allows you to reserve powerful ultimate abilities for high-density enemy clusters at choke points and high-health boss encounters.

When to Switch to Manual Ability Control

Automated play works well for routine farming and daily resource missions, saving time during standard grinding. However, manual control becomes necessary when attempting stages rated Hard or when pushing progress beyond your fortress's current recommended power level. Manual play requires constant attention and introduces the risk of mistiming a skill, so save your manual focus for high-difficulty encounters where timing determines success.

Timing Abilities for Wave Density and Choke Points

Allowing large groups of enemies to accumulate can overwhelm stationary defensive towers. To maximize damage efficiency and prevent frontline collapse:

  1. Watch skill indicators: Monitor the glowing indicator on your hero’s ability icon to confirm when a skill is off cooldown.
  2. Identify bottleneck pathing: Wait until incoming waves converge at a narrow corridor, entrance, or choke point near your defensive perimeter.
  3. Deploy area-of-effect (AoE) skills: Trigger your hero's AoE ability once enemies cluster together.

Delaying skill casts until targets condense prevents overkill, ensuring your static defenses and hero abilities do not waste damage potential on solitary targets.

Targeting High-Value Boss Units

Boss units feature large health pools and high damage output, making them a primary threat to your base health. Using abilities on standard enemy waves immediately before a boss arrives leaves your frontline vulnerable.

When facing a boss wave, hold at least one high-damage skill in reserve. Allow the boss unit to advance into the coverage area of your primary towers before activating your hero's burst skill. Combining stationary tower fire with concentrated hero damage locks the boss in the kill zone and destroys it before it can damage your base structures.

Managing Cooldown Rotations Across Waves

Because each stage contains a fixed number of enemy waves, casting abilities late in a wave leaves you defenseless at the start of the next. Manage your rotation using these steps:

  • Evaluate incoming wave types: Check whether the next group consists of rapid low-health units or heavy boss targets.
  • Hold ultimates during minor waves: If current tower placements can handle the active wave, save hero ultimate skills for the transition into the next wave.
  • Stagger multi-hero abilities: When deploying multiple heroes, rotate their skill activations so at least one defensive or crowd-control skill remains available for unexpected surges.
