To beat Level 1004 in Magic Sort!, you must secure at least one empty buffer vial immediately, consolidate matching surface colors, and prevent liquid splits across your four-unit bottles. Because the board begins tightly packed with fragmented color layers, arbitrary pours will quickly result in a deadlock.

Establish and Protect an Empty Buffer Bottle

Your primary operational goal at the start of Level 1004 is freeing a full bottle to serve as an open transfer lane. An empty vial accepts any liquid shade, making it your most flexible resource for rearranging blocking layers.

Follow these rules to manage your open space:

  • Group matching surface layers first: Scan the rack for bottles sharing the same top color. Pouring identical surface units together consolidates volume without occupying clean vials prematurely.
  • Never park isolated single units in an empty vial: Pouring a lone color into a cleared bottle without an immediate way to build upon it or empty it wastes your mobile slot.
  • Prioritize emptying donor bottles completely: When you transfer liquid out of a bottle containing only one or two remaining units, direct those pours toward matching stacks so the donor vial becomes your new empty buffer.

If every bottle contains at least one unit of liquid, your board loses flexibility and you will be unable to shift blocking segments.

Dig Out Buried Layers Without Splitting Colors

Once a working buffer is open, direct your moves toward uncovering buried base colors rather than making superficial matches.

  1. Target shallow obstructions: Identify bottles where one or two matching surface units sit directly on top of a locked color needed in an active stack. Transferring that paired surface layer clears the obstruction in a single sequence.
  2. Consolidate into single destination bottles: Each vial holds a maximum of four units. Pour matching units into one designated bottle until it reaches the four-unit cap.
  3. Avoid fragmenting shades: Do not split matching liquid segments across multiple partially filled tubes. Leaving two or three bottles half-filled with the same color clogs board capacity and leaves insufficient headroom to receive incoming transfers.

Level 1004 Phase Progression

Plan your moves according to the board state to avoid running out of valid transfers.

PhasePrimary ObjectiveKey Risk to Avoid
OpeningMerge matching surface units and clear one full bottleStashing unmatchable, single-layer colors in an empty vial
Mid-GameExpose trapped bottom layers and consolidate partial stacksSplitting a single color across three different partially filled tubes
EndgameComplete four-unit uniform stacks to permanently lock vialsMoving liquid between incomplete stacks without checking the four-unit cap

When a bottle reaches four units of a single matching color, it is complete and requires no further moves. As completed bottles lock down, the pool of remaining active colors shrinks, opening enough free capacity to cycle the remaining liquid segments into their final vials.
