To clear Level 274 in Magic Sort!, merge exposed surface colors directly into matching occupied tubes to empty an entire tube before digging into lower layers. Level 274 creates deadlocks when players scatter mismatched colors across open buffer tubes early. Keeping empty tubes open and confining each color to a maximum of two tubes at any time ensures you have the transfer capacity to unblock buried base colors.

Managing Tube Capacity and Opening Moves

Each standard tube holds four units of liquid. The board begins with partially filled, multi-colored tubes alongside empty buffer vials. Because bottom colors are pinned beneath single or double segments of opposing colors, opening moves must prioritize consolidation over exploration.

Follow this sequence to unlock working space:

  1. Scan the top layer across all tubes to identify colors that appear on multiple surfaces.
  2. Pour top bands into other occupied tubes that share the same surface color and have enough remaining capacity out of their four units.
  3. Avoid pouring mixed colors into your empty buffer tubes during the opening turns.
  4. Continue consolidating matching surface segments until you empty one original pre-filled tube, giving you two completely open tubes to work with.

Only seed an empty tube with a color if you can immediately assemble a complete four-unit column.

Move Priorities for Mid-Stage Sorting

Once two empty tubes are active, shift toward building single-color stacks. Leaving half-filled tubes containing two or three separate colors restricts your routing options and leads to stalls.

Move TypeBoard ActionRisk Level
Direct MergeCombine matching top colors between occupied tubesLow
Buffer PeelMove a blocking top segment into an empty tube to reveal a matchMedium
Column SeedingStart a new mono-color stack in an empty tubeMedium
Color SplittingPouring single units into different mixed tubesHigh (Avoid)

Prioritize completing three-unit and four-unit stacks of a single color over peeling random layers. Reducing the total number of exposed colors simplifies the board and frees up receiving capacity across the remaining tubes.

Clearing Trapped Base Colors with Cyclic Transfers

The primary obstacle in the late stage of Level 274 is unblocking buried base segments without stranding liquid in your transit lanes. When key colors are pinned at the bottom of multiple tubes, execute a cyclic transfer:

  • Pour the blocking upper color into a spare buffer tube.
  • Transfer the newly revealed base color directly onto its matching foundation tube.
  • Return the buffered color to its primary stack as soon as space opens.

Never allow a single color to be split across more than two containers simultaneously. If a tube holds two units of one color and one unit of another, it only has one unit of space left. Pouring a two-unit color onto it will fail, leaving your colors divided and blocking your remaining empty slots. Keep empty tubes clear between cycles to maintain open lanes until the final columns are sorted.
