To solve Level 547 in Magic Sort!, preserve your board mobility by keeping at least one of your two starting empty buffer tubes completely open. Pour matching surface colors into a single dedicated collection tube, and only peel away a top liquid layer if the color underneath can immediately merge into another bottle.
Opening Strategy: Managing the Two Buffer Tubes
Level 547 starts with mixed four-unit test tubes and two empty buffer bottles. Because liquid can only be poured onto an identical color or into an open tube, filling both buffer tubes with mismatched layers creates an immediate deadlock.
Use this sequence to open the board safely:
- Scan top layers for duplicates: Identify colors that appear across two or more bottle tops.
- Commit one buffer tube to a single color: Pour a duplicate surface color into the first empty tube, then immediately transfer the matching segment from another bottle into it. This builds toward your first four-unit monochromatic tube without cluttering open space.
- Keep the second buffer tube clean: Leave the second empty tube open for single-layer passes. Use it only to temporarily hold a segment when that transfer directly reveals a usable color beneath it.
- Merge full blocks: Whenever two units of the same color sit together, transfer them as a single block rather than splitting matching colors across multiple bottles.
Move Priorities for Clearing Mixed Tubes
Progress in Level 547 requires clearing original mixed tubes from top to bottom. Completely emptying a bottle returns a free tube to your buffer pool, expanding your routing options for deeper layers.
| Priority | Move Type | Board Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Merge into a near-complete tube | Locks in single-color progress and frees source capacity |
| 2 | Pour off to expose a matching sub-layer | Unlocks an immediate follow-up move without losing buffer space |
| 3 | Consolidate segments to empty a bottle | Restores a fully open tube to use as a flexible transfer buffer |
| 4 | Park a segment in an empty buffer | Use only when no direct matching merges exist on the board |
Preventing Mid-Game Deadlocks
A deadlock occurs when every tube has a different color on top and neither buffer bottle is empty. To avoid stalling:
- Check two layers deep before pouring: Do not move an unwanted top color into an empty tube unless the exposed layer beneath it has an open matching receiver already available.
- Trace base colors backward: If a crucial color is trapped at the very bottom of a tube beneath two unrelated layers, ensure the rest of the board has the matching capacity to absorb those top two layers before committing moves toward that bottom slot.
- Never split single colors across multiple bottles: Spreading identical color segments across several partial tubes clogs your board. Always funnel loose segments into the bottle that holds the largest stack of that color.
Completing the Board
The puzzle enters its final phase once your first bottle reaches a full four units of a single color. A completed bottle is permanently locked and requires no further action.
With that tube removed from play, funnel remaining partial stacks into the newly emptied bottles. Work through the dominant remaining colors one at a time until each liquid type is consolidated into its own dedicated bottle to finish Level 547.

Nice guide. I am checking the other Magic Sort! articles next.
I wish I had read this before upgrading the wrong thing.
Good guide for Magic Sort! players. The strategy part was useful.
The explanation is clear, especially for beginners.
