Prioritize flat Attack and Attack % over Damage % across your early- and mid-game gear in MapleStory : Idle RPG. Damage % operates additively within its own multiplier pool rather than multiplying total damage independently. If your base Attack is low, percentage-based damage bonuses multiply a weak starting number and yield negligible damage on screen.

How Attack and Damage % Interact

Combat calculations multiply your total Attack by skill ratios before applying the Damage % bracket. General Damage % modifiers from gear lines, job passives, and guild perks pool together additively. Because each additional point of Damage % increases only the existing multiplier bracket rather than your entire stat profile, stacking it too early causes rapid stat dilution.

In contrast, flat Attack raises the baseline value that every skill, critical hit, and percentage multiplier scales from. Securing flat Attack also magnifies the value of Attack %, which directly scales your raw Attack pool.

Attack %Scales flat Attack totalMultiplies baseline Attack poolMid to late game
Damage %Modifies post-ratio damageAdditive within damage bracket; subject to dilutionLate game (high base Attack required)

Controlled combat testing against training targets confirms that lower-to-mid-tier accounts lose average DPS when trading an Attack modifier for an equivalent tier of Damage %. Without sufficient raw Attack, skills struggle to overcome monster defense in higher stage pushes and growth dungeons, leaving Damage % bonuses largely ineffective.

The Stat Dilution Problem

Stat dilution occurs when an additive stat pool is already high, causing each new increase to provide a smaller relative improvement to total damage output.

For example:

  • If your character already has +100% total Damage from passive traits and skills, your baseline damage multiplier is 2.0x.
  • Adding another +10% Damage % raises the multiplier to 2.1x.
  • The relative increase from 2.0x to 2.1x is only a 5% net damage gain ($2.1 \div 2.0 = 1.05$).
  • If that same slot instead grants +10% total Attack, your base Attack increases by 10%, which then multiplies across the entire existing 2.0x damage pool for a full 10% net damage gain.

Because Damage % is commonly available across secondary systems and job passives, your damage bucket often fills up faster than your raw Attack pool.

Gear and Potential Priority

Follow this sequence when rolling potential lines, upgrading weapons, or selecting accessories:

  1. Target raw Attack and Attack % on primary offensive gear: Lock in Attack stats on main weapons, secondary weapons, and core accessories before considering damage modifiers.
  2. Audit your total character sheet: Compare your accumulated Damage % against your bonus Attack %. If your Damage % significantly exceeds your Attack bonuses, stop rolling for additional Damage %.
  3. Accept Damage % only as a secondary fill: Treat Damage % as an acceptable filler stat on gear pieces where primary Attack lines cannot roll, or after your weapon's base Attack has reached high late-game thresholds.
  4. Re-evaluate after weapon upgrades: When acquiring a higher-tier weapon with substantially higher base flat Attack, test replacement lines to see if supplemental Damage % rolls have become competitive.
