To beat Match Factory! Level 1609, clear visible goal items resting loosely on the surface before disturbing deeper clusters, and keep at least two to three tray slots empty at all times. A jammed holding tray causes failure far more often than the stage timer. Work down through the central mound layer by layer, and save utility boosters until the board narrows to hard-to-reach targets.

Clear Surface Targets Before Digging

Level 1609 buries required targets under dense layers of non-target clutter. Tapping blindly into the pile quickly fills your holding bar with mismatched pieces. Address the easiest items first to advance objectives and create working room:

  • Target the perimeter first: Items along the outer edges have little or no weight resting on them. Grabbing these pieces prevents sudden physics shifts that can bury other visible targets.
  • Focus on objective triples: Matching decorative clutter removes board volume, but it drains time without advancing the stage goals. Always prioritize three-of-a-kind sets that count toward your stage quota.
  • Pick partial sets only when the third item is accessible: Take a two-piece pair from the surface only if the final matching piece is clearly visible under a single top-layer obstacle.

Manage the Seven-Slot Tray

Your bottom holding tray holds up to seven items. A match requires three identical items, so holding three incomplete pairs leaves you with only one open slot—a setup that almost always leads to a board lock. Follow this status guide to keep your tray functional:

Tray Slots OccupiedDanger LevelRecommended Player Action
0–3 SlotsSafeCollect known triples and take calculated moves to expose buried targets.
4–5 SlotsCautionStop grabbing new item types. Only pick pieces that complete pairs already in your tray.
6 SlotsCritical DangerDo not tap obscured pieces. Clear a known triple immediately or use a booster to break the jam.
7 SlotsGame OverThe board locks instantly, requiring a booster or an extra-life prompt to continue.

Never allow three distinct pairs to sit in your tray at once. Always complete at least one pending match before pulling an item of a new type.

Excavate Dense Pockets Methodically

Once the upper layer is gone, the remaining targets sit trapped beneath mixed clutter in the central mound. Dig these out deliberately:

  1. Spot distinct profiles: Look for the distinctive colors or silhouettes of your remaining goals poking out from under neutral objects.
  2. Count the blockers: Check how many non-target objects are directly pinning the target down. Only clear those blockers if your tray has enough empty slots to store and resolve them.
  3. Watch the settling physics: Removing a piece from underneath causes the surrounding items to slide and settle. Observe where the remaining clutter rolls, as these shifts often expose the edges of buried goals without requiring extra taps.

Deploy Boosters for Late-Stage Bottlenecks

Avoid spending boosters in the opening seconds of Level 1609 when surface targets are still plentiful. Reserve them for the second half of the round when space or time runs out:

  • The Vacuum: Use this when your tray is nearly full and matching target pieces are scattered across the board. The Vacuum automatically completes designated sets, instantly restoring free tray slots.
  • The Spring: Use this when an essential goal item is wedged beneath an immovable pile of clutter. The Spring removes top blockers to open immediate access.
  • The Freeze / Time Booster: Activate this if all required target items are uncovered but you have fewer than 15 seconds remaining, giving you the time needed to tap the final sets without panicking.
