To strengthen Astromons in Monster Super League, focus your resources on three core progression mechanics: Evolution to permanently multiply base attributes, Star Ascension to raise maximum level caps, and socketing gems to customize combat stats.
---
Astromon Evolution and Gleem Usage
Evolution permanently increases an Astromon's base stats and alters its physical form without resetting its current level. Every Astromon advances through three evolutionary tiers: Evolution 1 (base form), Evolution 2, and Evolution 3.
Advancing an Astromon requires absorbing duplicate units of the same species or substituting special support creatures called Gleems:
- Evolution 1 to Evolution 2: Requires the primary base unit plus three Evolution 1 duplicates or elemental Gleems.
- Evolution 2 to Evolution 3: Requires the primary Evolution 2 unit plus three additional Evolution 2 units of the same species.
- Total Resource Requirement: Building a single Evolution 3 Astromon requires 16 total Evolution 1 copies (four Evolution 2 units composed of four base copies each).
| Evolution Tier | Material Requirements | Progression Impact |
|---|---|---|
| Evolution 1 to 2 | 1 Base + 3 Evo 1 duplicates (or Gleems) | Moderate attack, defense, and HP increase; updated model |
| Evolution 2 to 3 | 1 Base Evo 2 + 3 Evo 2 duplicates | Substantial stat multiplier; final model transformation |
Elemental Gleems (Fire, Water, Wood) can substitute for duplicate units only during Evolution 1 to Evolution 2 upgrades, while Holy Gleems can substitute across any element. Because Gleems are limited, reserve them strictly for natural four-star and five-star Astromons that cannot be easily caught or farmed on story maps.

Star Ascension and Level Ceilings
While Evolution changes an Astromon's form, Star Ascension increases its star rank to raise its maximum level cap. An Astromon must reach its current level ceiling before it can undergo Ascension.
- 3-Star Cap: Level 30
- 4-Star Cap: Level 40
- 5-Star Cap: Level 50
- 6-Star Cap: Level 60
Ascension consumes neutral Starstones and element-specific stones gathered from the Daily Elemental Dungeons.
Ascending an Astromon resets its level to level 1 at the higher star rank. This causes a brief temporary reduction in stats until you re-level the Astromon through stage battles or fruit feeding. Once leveled, the Astromon achieves significantly higher base health, attack, and defense pools than it could at its previous rank.

Gem Sockets and Shape Restrictions
Every Astromon rolls three gem sockets upon acquisition, divided randomly among three geometric shapes: Square, Triangle, and Diamond. Inspect an Astromon's gem sockets before investing rare evolution materials, as certain critical primary stats only appear on specific shapes:
- Square Sockets: The only shape that can roll Critical Rate % as a main primary stat.
- Triangle Sockets: The only shape that can roll Critical Damage % as a main primary stat.
- Diamond Sockets: The only shape that can roll Resistance % as a main primary stat.
- Universal Stats: Flat Attack, Flat Defense, Flat HP, Flat Recovery, and their percentage equivalents (Attack %, Defense %, HP %, Recovery %) can appear on any socket shape.
If an Astromon has passive skills that require landing a critical hit to trigger status effects, defense debuffs, or team buffs, that unit depends heavily on having at least one Square socket. Achieving high critical hit consistency early in the game without a Square Critical Rate % main stat is impractical.

Gem Set Bonuses and Stat Prioritization
Equipping three gems of the same set color activates an additional stat bonus:
- Valor Set (Red): +20% Attack
- Life Set (Orange): +20% Maximum HP
- Protection Set (Blue): +20% Defense
- Intuition Set (Purple): +20% Critical Rate
- Conviction Set (Green): +20% Resistance
When equipping four-star gems and higher, prioritize percentage-based primary stats over flat numeric stats. Flat bonuses offer minimal value as your units grow, whereas percentage stats multiply an Astromon's base attributes directly, scaling in power every time you ascend the unit to a new star tier.

Variant Astromons and Leader Skills
Variant Astromons feature an alternate color palette, visual particle effects, and an exclusive Leader Skill. A Leader Skill provides passive party-wide bonuses—such as increased Attack, Critical Rate, or Resistance—but only activates when that Variant occupies the leftmost leader slot on your four-unit team.
You do not need to wait for a natural Evolution 3 Variant pull. Feeding a Variant duplicate into a standard Astromon during the Evolution process transfers the Variant status to the upgraded unit, immediately unlocking its Leader Skill. Save and merge any duplicate Variants into your designated base Astromon before completing its final Evolution tier.

This saved me time in the early game.
This helped me understand strategy much better.
The explanation is clear, especially for beginners.
I wish I had read this before upgrading the wrong thing.
