To clear Chapter 1 with the Vanguard in Mythic Survivors, build for wide melee cleave and cooldown reduction, then use circular kiting to avoid getting cornered by converging enemy swarms. The Vanguard operates as a heavy close-range fighter with high baseline durability, but directional swing delays leave you vulnerable if you stand still or run out of damage scaling.

Vanguard Stat Priorities

During the first three minutes of Chapter 1, prioritize offensive area upgrades over pure defensive traits. Because fallen enemies drop experience gems where they die, falling behind on damage forces you to leave experience trapped behind dense enemy lines.

Attribute FocusCombat FunctionPriority Level
Cleave & Area of EffectBroadens the frontal swing cone to pierce swarmsHigh
Cooldown ReductionShortens downtime between attacks and skill triggersHigh
Armor & Maximum HealthSoftens incidental contact damage from sprintersMedium
Movement SpeedEnables smooth circular kiting around large hordesMedium

Focus initial level-up choices on extending weapon reach, boosting overall damage percentage, and adding radial or orbiting secondary weapons. Reserve health regeneration and pure armor until your primary attack clears standard fodder in a single rotation.

Movement and Attack Cadence

The Vanguard's directional attacks feature a brief recovery window between strikes. To prevent fast-tracking enemies from swarming your character during that delay, synchronize your movement with each attack:

  1. Step In on the Swing: Walk directly toward approaching enemies right as your attack triggers to maximize frontal cleave and knockback.
  2. Drift Back During Recovery: Backpedal slightly during the swing's recovery frame to stay out of enemy contact range.
  3. Follow a Circular Orbit: Never run in a straight line, which drives you into newly spawning waves or arena borders. Circle the perimeter of the active pack to herd enemies into a tight trailing group.
  4. Collect Gems Along Cleared Paths: Retrieve experience gems by following the lane your forward swings just cleared, rather than cutting back through live mobs.

Mid-Wave Swarms and Elite Encounters

Between minutes 5 and 8, spawn density escalates and introduces fast-moving elite enemies. Elites possess large health pools and block attacks meant for standard minions.

  • Do not trade damage directly: Continue your wide circular orbit, allowing your cleave and radial skills to thin out surrounding minions while passively wearing down the elite.
  • Burst down isolated elites: Once standard mobs are cleared, step in to strike the elite during its recovery animations, then retreat before it counters.
  • Collect dropped chests immediately: Elites drop high-tier chests that grant multi-skill upgrades or stat multipliers needed for the end of the chapter.

Chapter 1 Boss Strategy

The Chapter 1 boss uses heavy frontal smashes, straight-line charges, and periodic add summons. Enter this fight with upgraded movement speed and wide attack sweeps to manage both the boss and surrounding minions.

Dodging Boss Attacks

  • Frontal Smashes: Watch for the boss's startup animation windup. Step behind or to the flank of the boss to attack safely while the smash lands in front.
  • Charge Attacks: When the boss readies a charge, stop attacking and move perpendicular to its travel line.

Managing Minions

The boss regularly summons minion escorts to crowd the arena. Use your broad cleave attacks to eliminate these adds without losing positioning around the boss. Pick up experience orbs dropped by summoned minions to secure late-fight level-ups for mid-combat health refills and final passive boosts.
