To build a tiny planet base in No Man's Sky, place a base computer at high altitude, construct a radial spherical framework using rotated structural parts, and cover the exterior with scaled-down decorative rocks and flora. This technique creates a standalone celestial diorama suspended in the atmosphere while keeping functional modules hidden out of sight.
Anchoring the Base at High Altitude
A convincing micro-planet requires visual isolation from surrounding mountains, trees, and ground terrain. Setting up in the sky also gives the build camera a full 360-degree radius without ground geometry blocking your placement angles.
- Find a clear site: Choose a planet with clear weather conditions so heavy fog or storms do not obscure the miniature scale of the build.
- Build upward: Construct a temporary staircase or a vertical structural column leading hundreds of units into the sky.
- Claim the site: Drop your base computer or initial floor anchor at the top of the elevated column.
- Remove the scaffolding: Delete the temporary stairs beneath your platform to leave the build anchor suspended in mid-air.
Constructing the Spherical Core
Because standard base parts snap on flat planes, a spherical core requires building outward along radial angles from a single center point.
- Anchor the center: Place a central structural piece, such as a circular foundation or decorative marker, to establish your central origin.
- Rotate outward: Radiate small floor panels or beams outward at fixed angular intervals along both the horizontal and vertical axes to form latitude and longitude rings.
- Limit the diameter: Keep the sphere compact—roughly three to five wall lengths in diameter. Larger shells lose the miniature globe aesthetic and resemble standard dome bases.
- Enclose the shell: Connect curved wall segments or small floor panels to fill in the grid until you have a closed or nearly closed spherical hull.
Detailing the Miniature Surface Biome
Avoid using the Terrain Manipulator to sculpt the surface of your micro-planet. Its voxels are too coarse for small structures and ruin the miniature illusion. Instead, decorate the outer shell using the build menu's prop catalog.
- Minimize asset scale: Use the build menu resize control to shrink decorative boulders, mineral nodes, and petrified flora to their smallest possible dimensions.
- Disguise panel seams: Place dense rows of miniature trees, crystal formations, or small rocks directly over the intersecting seams of the wall panels to hide the geometric lines underneath.
- Create continental contrast: Cluster different textures together to define continents and oceans. Place mossy flora and small aquatic plants in depressions to represent forests and water, and leave bare alloy or stone sections exposed to represent polar caps or arid plains.
Adding Atmosphere and Orbital Features
Without lighting, a dark sphere can look like a floating cage rather than a living world. Lighting tricks and orbital satellites complete the astronomical look.
- Simulate an atmospheric glow: Conceal colored light caps, illuminated cables, or glowing plants beneath translucent panels or inside crevices. Soft amber, cyan, or violet lighting casts a gradient along the edges of the sphere, mimicking an orbital daylight terminator line.
- Build planetary rings: Attach thin pipe segments or bent wire guides around the equator of the planetoid to establish a ring plane.
- Add miniature moons: Place scaled-down sphere generators or glowing light orbs on the ring path or just beyond the atmosphere to serve as orbiting satellites.
Hiding Interior Utilities
Preserving the exterior diorama requires keeping utility modules out of view.
Leave the interior cavity of the sphere hollow. Place electromagnetic generators, solar panels, and batteries inside this inner chamber completely concealed beneath the outer terrain shell. Run short-range teleporter cables directly into the interior void to provide transit without cluttering the surface.
When placing a landing pad, position it several dozen units away on a detached observation platform rather than directly on the micro-planet. Keeping starships away from the sphere protects the forced perspective and gives visitors an unobstructed view of the completed miniature world.

Nice guide. I am checking the other No Man's Sky articles next.
This guide answered the exact question I had.
Can you add more details about base building in a future update?
The tips are practical and easy to follow.
