To complete Chapter 11 and defend the Bifrost in Northgard, secure your starting economy immediately, fortify the approach tiles leading to the central bridge, and rely on upgraded Watchtowers alongside a mixed warband to withstand Hvedrung's recurring undead waves before launching a final assault.

Early Settlement and Scouting Priorities

Begin scouting adjacent zones during the first month to locate stone deposits, iron nodes, and food sources. You must claim food-bearing tiles quickly to support expansion and prevent villager recruitment stalls.

Early BuildingTarget TimingPurpose
Scout CampMonth 1 (Early Spring)Uncovers resource nodes and routes toward the Bifrost
Woodcutter's LodgeMonth 1 (Mid Spring)Supplies wood for early colonization and winter heating
Training CampMonth 2 (Late Spring)Trains an initial clearing force of two to four warriors
Food Gathering Hut or FarmMonth 3 (Summer)Stabilizes food stockpiles before expanding the military

Do not overextend food reserves on non-essential territories early on. Clear immediate threats like wandering Draugr, then colonize tiles that directly secure food or bridge access.

Fortifying Bridge Chokepoints and Warband Setup

Hvedrung sends periodic attack waves composed of Draugr and Fallen Valkyries toward the Bifrost. To minimize casualties, do not fight in open, unfortified tiles.

  1. Build Watchtowers on perimeter tiles. Place towers on the border sectors directly flanking the bridge corridor.
  2. Upgrade towers with Stone. Upgraded Watchtowers gain significant durability and defensive damage to help thin out incoming waves.
  3. Fight within tower range. When an attack horn sounds, position your military behind your defensive structures so hostile units divide their attacks between the tower and your soldiers.

Warband Composition

  • Shield Bearers: Keep three to four Shield Bearers at the front to absorb projectile fire and tank elite attackers.
  • Axe Throwers: Position four to five Axe Throwers behind your frontline to deal ranged damage safely.
  • Rig: Engage high-value targets with Rig, but pull him back before his health drops below 30 percent to prevent severe morale penalties.

Managing Winter Cycles and Morale

Winter brings severe wood and food consumption penalties. Because standing military units consume rations without producing resources, maintaining an oversized army between waves will trigger starvation.

  • Build a Silo near primary food tiles. Silos increase local food production and protect stockpiles from rodent events.
  • Reassign idle soldiers between waves. When no attack is imminent, return injured or surplus units to productive roles like woodcutting, gathering, or healing.
  • Construct and upgrade a Brewery. High clan happiness keeps villager birth rates steady, allowing you to quickly replace frontline losses.

Build a Carved Stone early to sustain steady Lore generation. Prioritize the following technologies:

  • Colonization: Reduces the food cost required to claim strategic tiles toward the bridge.
  • Weaponsmith: Increases the efficiency of iron-based military weapon upgrades.
  • Fur Coats: Removes the combat strength penalty incurred when fighting in snow.
  • Military Strategy: Boosts warrior attack power based on military specialization.

How to Defeat Hvedrung

Once your perimeter is secure and you have established an upgraded warband of 12 to 14 units, transition from defense to offense.

  1. Stockpile food and gold. Amass surplus resources before moving out so your economy remains stable while production workers are converted into soldiers.
  2. Advance in formation. Move into Hvedrung’s zone as a tight group. Allow Shield Bearers to absorb initial aggro while Axe Throwers target defensive totems and backline casters.
  3. Rotate wounded units. Pull heavily damaged fighters away from the main combat line so nearby healers can restore their health before they re-enter combat.
  4. Hold the Bifrost tile. After defeating Hvedrung, keep your surviving military stationed on the Bifrost until the closing victory sequence triggers.
