To complete Chapter 1: An Eye for an Eye in Northgard, scout the zones bordering your Town Hall, establish steady Wood and Food production before winter, train a small squad of Warriors to clear local Wolves, and assign workers to repair the damaged coastal longship.

Base Setup and Early Scouting

Your Town Hall automatically generates new Villagers as long as your clan's Happiness remains positive and your population does not exceed your current housing limit. Build quickly on your starting tile to establish your economy before the first winter arrives.

  1. Build a Scout Camp: Place a Scout Camp on your home tile immediately and convert two idle Villagers into Scouts to remove the fog of war from neighboring sectors.
  2. Construct a House: Build a House before reaching the starting population cap of six to prevent production delays.
  3. Build a Woodcutter's Lodge: Construct a Woodcutter's Lodge on your starting tile or an adjacent forest sector as soon as it is scouted. Winter increases Wood consumption for heating and reduces baseline Food gathering, making an early Wood surplus necessary for survival.

Colonization Order and Food Management

Expanding your territory requires spending Food. The colonization cost increases with each additional tile you claim, so spend your early Food strictly on high-value sectors.

Tile AssetCost RangeStrategic Priority
Farmland or Natural Food20–40 FoodHigh. Provides steady sustenance and stabilizes winter consumption.
Wolf Den Border20–50 FoodHigh. Prevents wildlife attacks on interior production tiles.
Shipwreck or Ruin Site40–80 FoodMedium. Delivers immediate Kröwns and Lore upon Scout inspection.
Empty Low-Slot Ground60+ FoodLow. Delay claiming until military structures require more building slots.

If your Scouts reveal wandering Sheep within your borders, you have two options depending on your current stockpile:

  • Slaughter the Sheep: Provides an immediate lump sum of Food if your stores are depleted and colonization has stalled.
  • Leave the Sheep Grazing: Keeping live sheep within your zones reduces heating Wood consumption during winter.

Military Recruitment and Wolf Combat

Wolves occupy several border tiles in Chapter 1 and will attack any Villagers operating adjacent to their territory. Once your basic Wood and Food production are stable, construct a Training Camp on an expansion tile that has open building slots.

Converting Villagers into Warriors requires both Food and Kröwns. An active squad of two to three Warriors is sufficient to secure the region:

  • Focus Damage: Move your squad into a wolf-occupied tile together and target one beast at a time to reduce incoming damage quickly.
  • Preserve Injured Units: Wounded units suffer penalties to their combat and gathering efficiency. If a Warrior's health bar turns red, retreat that individual across your border into friendly territory while the remaining troops finish the fight.
  • Neutralize the Den: Push directly into the wolf den sector and clear the resident pack to stop hostile beasts from continuously respawning along your borders.

Shipwreck Exploration and Longship Repair

Once the wolves are eliminated, send your Scouts to investigate the ancient ruins and shipwrecks scattered across the map. Exploring these nodes grants lump-sum Kröwns and Lore, which unlocks tool upgrades and early Clan of the Stag proficiencies.

To complete the chapter's final objective:

  1. Clear any remaining hostile wildlife from the coastal sector where the stranded longship lies.
  2. Colonize the coastal tile using your accumulated Food reserves.
  3. Assign healthy Villagers to reconstruct the damaged vessel using surplus Wood.
  4. Position two Warriors on the coast to guard the construction site from stragglers until the repair is finished.
