To clear Challenge Mode Act 1 in Obsidian Knight: Roguelike RPG, kite enemy waves along the outer arena perimeter, eliminate ranged elite casters immediately, and dodge perpendicularly through the boss's red attack telegraphs.
Unlike the baseline campaign, Challenge Mode places your character into enclosed combat arenas featuring dense enemy spawns, heightened monster scaling, and continuous wave pressure with minimal recovery time.
Wave Positioning and Swarm Control
Entering the center of the arena at the start of a wave causes incoming enemies to surround you, cutting off escape routes. Instead, follow this movement routine:
- Perimeter Kiting: Move counter-clockwise along the outer boundaries of the arena to force incoming melee enemies into a trailing pack behind you.
- Boundary Funneling: Drag groups along arena corners and walls to compress wide lines of grunts into tight chokepoints.
- Paced Bursting: Hold high-damage area-of-effect (AoE) abilities until multiple sub-waves overlap, then turn and unleash your burst to wipe the clustered pack in a single cycle.
Grouping standard fodder together maximizes your AoE damage efficiency and clears the arena floor before armored variants and elite units appear.
Elite Threat Target Priority
Elite units in Act 1 feature enlarged health pools, crowd-control resistances, and dangerous attack patterns. Prioritize your single-target damage based on how each unit projects threat across the arena:
| Enemy Type | Primary Danger | Tactical Response |
|---|---|---|
| Ranged Casters | Persistent projectile chip damage from distance | Dash past frontlines to burst them down immediately |
| Armored Brutes | Heavy frontal cleaves and stun-locks | Bait the attack windup, dodge behind them, and hit their rear |
| Swarm Grunts | Body-blocking and movement restriction | Circle-kite into dense clusters and clear with AoE skills |
Ranged casters remain stationary and fire from across the arena, while armored brutes are slow and easily led along your kiting route. Never trade hits with melee brutes while casters are active; dive the backline to eliminate ranged fire first, then clean up the slower melee units.
Defensive Cooldown and Sustain Management
Avoid cycling defensive skills automatically as soon as their cooldowns refresh.
- Reserve Mobility: Save defensive dashes and emergency barriers specifically for moments when you are cornered against a boundary wall or when an elite initiates an unblockable swing.
- Batch Sustain Triggers: If your build relies on lifesteal, shields on hit, or health-on-hit effects, trigger them while hitting dense packs of clustered melee fodder. These mechanics generate maximum sustain when striking multiple targets simultaneously.
How to Beat the Act 1 Final Boss
The final encounter pairs an aggressive boss with periodic minion spawns. The boss cycles between wide frontal cleaves, dash charges, and ground slams marked by red indicator hitboxes.
- Dodge Direction: When a red telegraph appears, dash perpendicularly (to the left or right) out of the indicator path. Dodging backward often keeps you inside the extended reach of the attack.
- Minion Management: Disengage from the boss whenever secondary minions spawn. Kite the minions around the perimeter to safely replenish resources and trigger sustain procs before resuming damage on the main target.
- Punish Recovery Windows: Wait for the boss to finish a heavy slam animation, step into melee range to execute your burst rotation, and disengage before the next attack winds up.

Good guide for Obsidian Knight: Roguelike RPG players. The strategy part was useful.
This saved me time in the early game.
I wish I had read this before upgrading the wrong thing.
The explanation is clear, especially for beginners.
