To defeat Eldrun (the Eldren Guardian Golem) in ODIN:VALHALLA RISING, switch off full auto-combat, kite around the arena perimeter to bait his slow windups, and save your evasion dashes exclusively for unavoidable area attacks. Unload your highest damage abilities only during his post-attack recovery animations.

Preparation and Combat Settings

Before entering the arena, adjust your character settings and consumable loadout to withstand chip damage and prevent resource loss:

  • Auto-Potion Threshold: Set HP potion auto-use to 70% or 75% in the combat settings menu to stay out of one-shot burst range.
  • Weight Limit: Clear unnecessary inventory items so your total weight stays below the encumbrance penalty threshold, ensuring natural HP and MP regeneration remain active.
  • Food Buffs: Consume food dishes that grant attack power, defense, and attack speed to reduce fight duration.
  • Manual Targeting: Enable manual target lock-on so camera movement and dodging do not detach focus from the boss.

Eldrun's Attack Telegraphs

Eldrun relies on heavy physical blows preceded by distinct red telegraph markers. Recognize each animation to respond correctly:

  • Overhead Ground Slam: Eldrun raises both stone fists and strikes the ground in front of him, creating a red frontal cone or rectangular strip. This inflicts heavy damage and knockdown. Move laterally on foot to exit the marker without burning a dash.
  • Radial Shockwave: Eldrun crouches and charges a wide circular red zone centered on himself. This attack deals severe damage and staggers targets in melee reach. Backpedal or dash out of the circle before the channel completes.
  • Sweeping Fist Cleave: Eldrun performs a wide horizontal punch across his front. Keep off his direct frontal arc to avoid taking passive cleave hits.

Positioning by Combat Archetype

Do not trap yourself against the arena walls. Keep the boss centered and maneuver in a wide circle to ensure you always have space to retreat when red markers expand.

Combat ArchetypeArena SpacingPriority Action During Telegraphs
Ranged (Sniper, Arch Mage)Outer ring at maximum skill rangeKite in a steady circle, use instant casts, and walk out of frontal markers
Melee (Berserker, Paladin)Directly behind Eldrun's backCircle behind him during frontal slams; dash away immediately when the radial shockwave appears

Managing Dodge Rolls and Damage Windows

Mismanaging your evasion dash is the most common failure point in this encounter.

  1. Walk instead of rolling: Standard attacks and the linear ground slam can be avoided simply by walking sideways. Do not waste your dodge roll on attacks you can outrun.
  2. Hold the roll for the Radial Shockwave: The circular blast covers a large area with a short detonation window. Save your dodge dash to clear this specific perimeter if you are caught close to Eldrun.
  3. Attack during post-slam recovery: Eldrun pauses for several seconds after completing a ground slam or radial pulse. Use this recovery window to apply defense debuffs and execute long-cast channeling abilities from behind him.
  4. Disengage before the next cycle: Stop channeling multi-hit attacks if Eldrun has been idle for more than three seconds, as he will immediately begin winding up his next red telegraph.
