To start progressing in Path of Titans, choose the Gondwa map on your preferred server type, select a mobile mid-tier dinosaur rather than a slow apex predator, and complete local gathering quests while stacking the Home Cave Well-Rested buff.

Choosing Between Official and Community Servers

Your server type determines how fast your dinosaur grows, whether death sets back your progress, and which creatures you can play.

FeatureOfficial ServersCommunity Servers
Growth MethodQuest completion onlyQuests, passive growth over time, or boosted multipliers
Rules and ModerationUnmoderated free-for-all; no combat restrictionsAdmin-enforced rules (such as semi-realism or body-down limits)
Dinosaur RosterBase official species onlyBase roster plus community-modded species
Data PersistenceProgress saved across official matchmaking regionsProgress tied to specific hosts; subject to wipes or downtime

Choose an Official server if you want permanent account progression with standard survival stakes. Choose a Community server if you prefer faster passive growth, modded creatures, or enforced engagement rules such as body-down limits, which prevent outside predators from attacking during an active fight.

Selecting a Starting Map: Gondwa vs. Panjura

Begin on Gondwa instead of Panjura. Gondwa accommodates all playstyles by supporting terrestrial dinosaurs, semi-aquatics, marine reptiles, and flying pterosaurs across diverse biomes, vertical cliffs, and ocean channels.

  • Avoid High-Risk Central Hotspots: Areas such as the Impact Crater lake, Green Hills, and Grand Plains consistently draw hostile apex carnivore packs and territorial herbivores.
  • Target Safer Perimeter Zones: Areas like Stego Mountain, Snake Gully, and Rainbow Hills provide reliable freshwater sources and lower player traffic, reducing ambush risks while you grow.

Panjura is limited to terrestrial species and features dense, uniform forest cover. Its long travel distances and lack of aerial or fully marine species make juvenile navigation slower and more punishing for new players.

Picking a Beginner-Friendly Starter Dinosaur

Avoid starting as an apex dinosaur like Tyrannosaurus rex, Spinosaurus, or Eotriceratops. Juvenile apexes suffer from severe stamina depletion, slow sprint speeds, high hunger drain, and the longest growth requirements in the game, leaving them vulnerable to faster predators.

Select a fast, mid-tier species or scout class to learn map layouts and survival mechanics:

  • Ceratosaurus: A durable mid-tier carnivore with dependable sprint speed, solid bite damage, and a bone-break ability useful for controlling combat pacing.
  • Metriacanthosaurus: An agile hit-and-run carnivore equipped with venom attacks that drain enemy stamina, offering safe disengagement for solo play.
  • Kentrosaurus: A mobile herbivore that reflects bleed damage back onto attackers, discouraging pursuit from aggressive carnivores.
  • Thalassodromeus: A flying pterosaur that bypasses ground hazards entirely, allowing you to scout quest locations, find freshwater springs, and learn terrain with minimal predator threat.

Mid-tier dinosaurs possess enough speed to escape bad encounters, sufficient stamina to cross regional zones, and small hitboxes that conceal easily in dense brush.

How to Maximize Growth with Quests and Home Caves

Quests are the core method for earning growth and Marks, which are spent to unlock abilities and skins. When you enter a zone, the game automatically assigns local gathering tasks—such as finding acorns, branches, flowers, or lakeweed—alongside occasional hunting objectives. Joining a group shares progress across nearby members and unlocks group-specific quests that grant bonus growth.

To cut your questing requirement in half, utilize the Home Cave Well-Rested buff:

  1. Locate a blue Home Cave icon on your mini-map.
  2. Interact with the entrance stone to enter the instanced sanctuary.
  3. Log out while inside the cave and leave your dinosaur resting for several hours or overnight.
  4. Log back in to claim the Well-Rested buff, which doubles growth earned from completed quests until the purple bonus meter depletes.

Never log out in the open wilderness. Logging out inside a Home Cave prevents attacks while offline and significantly reduces the total time required to reach sub-adult and adult stages.

Managing Vitals and Combat Status Effects

Surviving long enough to reach adulthood requires active stamina management, careful water consumption, and quick responses to combat debuffs:

  • Conserve Stamina: Trot during standard exploration. Never sprint across open fields unless escaping a predator or securing a kill, and keep at least 50% of your stamina bar full at all times.
  • Check Water Cleanliness: Drinking from stagnant ponds or saltwater coastal pools causes dehydration or sickness. Check the cleanliness percentage before drinking; water sources below 15% quality reduce your health. Drink from upstream waterfalls, inland river bends, or Waystone springs instead.
  • Bleed (Red Droplet Icon): Bleed deals continuous damage that escalates as you sprint. Sit or crouch immediately in a concealed spot to staunch the bleed rate.
  • Venom (Purple Droplet Icon): Venom halts passive stamina regeneration. Avoid burning extra stamina while affected, and maintain distance until the toxin clears.
