To carry a friendly player in Path of Titans, invite the target dinosaur into an official group, approach them with a significantly larger species, and interact with the pickup prompt. Friendly carrying allows larger group members to transport smaller allies across dangerous terrain without dealing damage. However, carrying restricts the transporter's offensive abilities, increases sprint stamina drain, and requires strict weight differences.
Group Requirements and Weight Disparities
Friendly carrying only functions between allied dinosaurs in the same official party. Unlike predatory combat clamps used by creatures like Sarcosuchus or Hatzegopteryx, friendly carrying deals zero damage and cannot be used on solo players or non-group members.
To initiate a pickup, the carrier must have a substantially higher combat weight than the passenger:
- Eligible Carriers: Apexes and large dinosaurs, such as Tyrannosaurus, Spinosaurus, and Eotriceratops, can hoist hatchlings, juveniles, and small-tier adult species.
- Eligible Passengers: Small species like Deinonychus, Camptosaurus, and Latenivenatrix, as well as growing young of larger species.
- Ineligible Pairings: Dinosaurs within the same or similar weight classes cannot carry one another. A Ceratosaurus cannot lift an adult Metriacanthosaurus, and apex species cannot carry fellow apexes.
Passengers retain full control over their positioning. Carried players receive an on-screen release command that lets them dismount instantly at any time.
Movement Penalties and Stamina Management
Carrying an ally increases movement burdens and forces careful stamina tracking:
- Sprinting Depletion: Trotting consumes standard stamina, but sprinting with a passenger drains stamina rapidly.
- Forced Drops: If the carrier's stamina bar completely empties, the dinosaur automatically drops the passenger. Both players face brief immobilization upon an involuntary drop, leaving them vulnerable to fast pursuers like Alioramus or Megalania.
- Handling Limits: Carriers suffer from a wider turning radius and reduced jump height.
- Water Crossing Risks: Semi-aquatic dinosaurs ferrying non-swimmers across waterways in Gondwa or Panjura must monitor breath and swim stamina. Exhausting stamina in deep water forces a drop, placing terrestrial juveniles at high risk of drowning or aquatic ambushes.
Pack Migration Strategy
The main utility of friendly carrying is protecting slow juveniles with limited stamina pools during growth runs across open territory like Gondwa's Grand Plains.
| Migration Phase | Carrier Responsibility | Carried Ally Responsibility |
|---|---|---|
| Departure | Secure the passenger before leaving foliage cover. | Fully regenerate stamina before mounting. |
| Transit | Maintain a steady trot; save sprint for emergencies. | Scan surroundings and call out incoming hostiles. |
| Resource Gathering | Place passenger directly beside quest objectives. | Collect required items quickly while the carrier guards. |
| Threat Detection | Drop the passenger in heavy brush before fighting. | Crouch and hide immediately to break line of sight. |
Combat Constraints and Safe Drop Habits
Holding a teammate occupies the carrier's mouth, completely disabling primary attacks. The carrier cannot execute heavy bites, bone-breaking attacks, or horn rams while carrying a passenger, leaving only secondary actions like stomps and tail whips available. If hostile players engage, drop the passenger immediately before trading hits.
Beyond combat disengagements, packs should practice safe drop protocols:
- Check Footing: Always release passengers on flat, level ground. Dismounting on steep inclines, cliffs, or ravine edges can cause severe fall damage or instant death.
- Coordinate Disengagements: Use voice or text cues to signal a drop so the passenger can run directly into hiding rather than walking into the carrier's defensive tail-swipe radius.
- Emergency Evacuations: If a small ally suffers a bone-break debuff during a retreat, a heavy group member can scoop them up to bypass their crippled movement speed and escape incoming pursuers.
