In Path of Titans, defeating large herbivores and apex carnivores with a raptor pack requires dividing players into defined combat roles, staggering pounce cycles, and driving prey into open terrain. Reckless swarming allows targets to exhaust your group through bucking and crush grounded dromaeosaurs with heavy counter-attacks.

Pack Roles and Species Assignments

An effective pack divides its members across specific dromaeosaur species to leverage their distinct mobility, damage profiles, and voice abilities. Rather than bunching together, the pack splits into a bait team, a primary latching wave, and a secondary rotation wave.

Pack AnchorAchillobatorVoice buff deployment, heavy burst bitesTime group calls and punish turning or slowed targets

Achillobator anchors the frontline by deploying voice calls that enhance the damage output and stamina efficiency of nearby packmates. Deinonychus players act as the vanguard, darting around the target's head to trigger missed swings, while Latenivenatrix focuses on sustained flank attachment to build bleed stacks.

Two-Wave Pounce Rotations and Stamina Discipline

Never allow the entire pack to pounce simultaneously. Prey animals will immediately buck to rapidly burn through the swarm's collective stamina. If a raptor allows its stamina to drop to zero while clinging to a target, it suffers a hard dismount animation that leaves it stunned on the ground, creating an easy target for tail sweeps, stomps, or head bites.

To maintain continuous pressure without risking hard dismounts, execute a two-wave pounce cycle:

  1. Wave Alpha Launch: Primary latchers pounce the target's flank or shoulders the moment an enemy attack misses, applying bleed damage.
  2. Wave Bravo Harassment: Secondary raptors circle closely on foot, nipping ankles or the tail tip to distract the target and split its attention.
  3. Alpha Manual Dismount: Latched raptors manually jump off once stamina falls to roughly 25%. This leaves enough stamina to sprint away to safety and regenerate.
  4. Wave Bravo Attachment: As Wave Alpha disengages, Wave Bravo immediately latches onto the target, resetting bucking demands and preventing the prey from resting.

Latched raptors should aim for the hips, upper flanks, or shoulders behind the prey's jawline to avoid clipping into frontal bite hitboxes.

Baiting Attacks and Controlling Terrain

Apex carnivores like Tyrannosaurus rex and Spinosaurus can eliminate small dromaeosaurs in a single hit. Baiters must run feints into the quarry's peripheral vision to draw out heavy head swings, bone-break bites, or tail sweeps. These heavy attacks cost the prey significant stamina and lock them into recovery frames, signaling latchers to jump in safely.

Terrain control dictates the survival of the pack:

  • Prevent Defensive Turtling: Prey will attempt to back against sheer cliff faces or wedge into boulder fields to cover their flanks and scrape off latched raptors. Position scouts ahead of the target to body-block narrow paths and herd the animal into open ground.
  • Block Water Corridors: Semi-aquatic predators such as Spinosaurus and Sarcosuchus will run toward lakes or rivers when injured. If an apex enters deep water while a raptor is latched, the raptor is forced into a slow swimming animation, leaving it vulnerable to instant death. Form a perimeter between the prey and the water line to cut off retreat paths.

Pack Recovery and Kill Confirmation

Focus all pack damage onto a single designated quarry. Splitting damage across multiple targets allows opponents to survive and counter-attack. Pack leaders must call focus fire and track when the target begins to limp or exhaust its stamina.

Any raptor that takes damage or exhausts its stamina pool must disengage completely, retreat to a ridge or dense brush outside the fight radius, and wait for its combat timer to expire before sitting down to heal. Fresh packmates must immediately step into the rotation to prevent the prey animal from resting or recovering stamina. Maintain the two-wave rotation until the target collapses.
