To survive as a Spinosaurus in Path of Titans, anchor your movements to deep river systems, rely on renewable fish spawns for food, and force hostile predators into swimming water where their land attacks are disabled. Because the Spinosaurus suffers from poor terrestrial stamina and sluggish acceleration, venturing far inland leaves you vulnerable to faster carnivores and rival apexes.
Water Navigation and Shoreline Positioning
Deep rivers, lakes, and deltas serve as your primary travel corridors. Swimming allows you to bypass difficult terrain and outpace land carnivores without draining terrestrial sprint stamina. However, the Spinosaurus has a wide turning radius in water compared to agile aquatic predators, requiring deliberate positioning.
- Locate Transition Depths: Always identify where shallow, wadeable riverbeds transition into true swimming water. If attacked on a bank, back into deep water to force land opponents to swim, which disables their heavy land attacks and slows them down.
- Avoid Shallow Tributaries: Steer clear of narrow creeks filled with submerged boulders. Getting beached on rocks prevents diving, strips away your swim mobility, and traps you in place.
- Control River Choke Points: Ambush prey near standard river crossings where terrestrial players are forced to wade or swim slowly to the opposite bank.
Food Sources and Sustenance
A fully grown Spinosaurus has high hunger drain. Take advantage of your piscivorous diet to feed safely without entering contested inland carcass sites.
| Food Source | Risk Level | Satiation Value | Strategic Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lake and River Fish | Very Low | Moderate | Primary daily food source; expends little stamina and leaves no tracking trail. |
| Terrestrial Carcasses | High | High | Scavenge only near shorelines; grab meat chunks and carry them into the water to eat safely. |
| Solo Mid-Tier Kills | Medium | High | Target solitary dinosaurs crossing shallow banks; strike decisively before they flee inland. |
Diving for fish produces no blood trails or kill notifications, keeping your position concealed from nearby predators. If you must feed on a land carcass, approach from the water, grab meat, and immediately retreat into the river before eating. Eating on land locks you in place during the consumption animation, leaving you exposed to ambushes.
Land Stamina Management
The Spinosaurus has a small sprint stamina pool and slow standing stamina regeneration. Moving inland without a plan will leave you stranded and defenseless against coordinated packs.
- Enforce the Half-Stamina Tether: Never travel farther from deep water than half of your remaining sprint stamina bar can take you.
- Trot by Default: Walk or trot across dry land to conserve stamina. Save your sprint exclusively for securing an ambush strike or making an emergency dive into the river.
- Back Against Terrain: If trapped on land by faster enemies, back your tail against a cliff wall, dense trees, or large boulders to eliminate rear flanking attacks.
- Crouch Instead of Resting: When recovering stamina, crouch behind visual cover instead of resting completely flat. Resting triggers a slow standing animation that opponents can punish with free hits.
Combat Matchups Against Rival Predators
Combat outcomes depend on controlling the encounter environment. Evaluate whether your opponent holds the advantage on land or in open water.
Tyrannosaurus rex
Never engage a Tyrannosaurus rex in an open land brawl. A T. rex possesses superior land damage output and can apply bone-break effects that neutralize your ability to retreat. Pull the fight toward the shoreline. If the T. rex wades out, tread water just outside its reach. Use bite and claw attacks while taking advantage of its severely reduced swimming speed.
Sarcosuchus
The Sarcosuchus possesses explosive burst speed and heavy ambush damage in deep, murky water. Do not swim blindly across wide lakes where a Sarco can strike unseen from below. Instead, fight in semi-deep riverbeds. Absorb or dodge the initial lunge, turn quickly, and engage in close-quarters brawling. Your larger overall health pool and sustained claw attacks will out-trade the Sarcosuchus in a prolonged fight.
Mid-Tier Packs
Packs of Ceratosaurus or Metriacanthosaurus will attempt to drain your stamina with hit-and-run bleed attacks. Do not sprint after them, as chasing mid-tiers will exhaust your stamina pool. Walk steadily toward deep water while using wide tail attacks to clear your flanks. Once your Spinosaurus is submerged chest-deep, terrestrial pack hunters cannot bite without treading water. Submerge completely, dive out of sight, and swim downstream to wait out bleed or venom debuffs.

This saved me time in the early game.
Nice guide. I am checking the other Path of Titans articles next.
I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
This helped me understand strategy much better.
