Pixel Heroes: Tales of Emond Light and Dark Team Progression Guide

To build a full Light and Dark (L/D) team in Pixel Heroes: Tales of Emond without halting your progress, treat standard elemental (Wood, Water, and Fire) units as temporary stepping stones. Use these RGB heroes to push early story chapters and unlock account features, but pause their promotions strictly at specific fodder tiers so they can eventually be sacrificed to awaken your high-tier Light and Dark roster.

Safe Star Milestones for Non-L/D Fodder

Promoting elemental heroes past intermediate thresholds without a clear plan is the fastest way to stall an account. The game's promotion system requires specific star ratings when consuming fodder, meaning certain ranks are safe pausing points while others lock your materials away.

  • 6-Star Heroes: These are safe stopping points and fundamental upgrade ingredients. They are consumed during 7-star and 8-star promotions.
  • 7-Star and 8-Star Heroes: Never pause here intentionally. Heroes at 7 or 8 stars cannot be used as food for higher-tier promotions. Only push an RGB unit past 6 stars if you have the exact duplicate copies and fodder on hand to take them immediately to 9 stars.
  • 9-Star Heroes: This is the primary target milestone for early and mid-game RGB carries. A 9-star unit serves as the required sacrifice to promote a hero from 9 stars to 10 stars. Once an RGB carry begins to lose effectiveness, leave them at 9 stars until an L/D carry is ready to consume them.
  • 10-Star Heroes: Promote an RGB unit to 10 stars only when you have a top-tier hero ready to advance to 11 stars or beyond, where 10-star food is required. Do not make 10-star RGB units speculatively if you do not have an immediate recipient.

When to Swap RGB Carries for L/D Heroes

Do not swap an established 9-star or 10-star RGB damage carry out of your active formation for a newly acquired 5-star or 6-star L/D unit. Base stats, health, and combat speed scale heavily with star rank, meaning a heavily promoted RGB hero will easily outperform an under-starred L/D damage dealer.

  • Damage Dealers: Keep your 9-star or 10-star RGB attacker active until your replacement L/D carry reaches at least 8 or 9 stars. Swapping too early will reduce your raw damage and cause you to lose turn order in combat.
  • Support and Utility Heroes: Supports are the primary exception to the star-deficit rule. L/D units providing mechanics such as revives, shields, team cleanses, or damage distribution can often replace an RGB unit at 6 or 7 stars because their value comes from skill utility rather than raw offensive stats.

Managing Summon Currencies and Fodder

Light and Dark heroes drop at significantly lower rates from standard summon pools, making passive pulls an unreliable way to advance them. Transitioning efficiently requires strict resource discipline:

  1. Stop pulling standard banners after securing a functional RGB team. Once you have a working roster of 9-star elemental units, reserve your Star Diamonds and event summon materials exclusively for limited-time banners, selection chests, and rotational events that feature specific L/D units.
  2. Focus on one Light and one Dark hero at a time. Faction fodder for Light and Dark is scarce. Spreading food across two Light units simultaneously guarantees that neither will reach a usable star rating. Funnel all available faction materials into a single target until they are fully promoted before starting the next.
  3. Spend shop tokens strictly on L/D shards. Save cross-server, faction, and event shop currencies for guaranteed L/D shards or select chests rather than buying discounted RGB duplicates to rush short-term elemental promotions.
