To mine efficiently in Pixel Heroes: Tales of Emond, dig straight down in a narrow vertical column to reach deep floor tiers, and hoard your Spinach Cans in your inventory until a dedicated mining event begins. Spend your naturally regenerating pickaxe stamina daily so it never reaches its cap, but do not clear entire horizontal floors or consume portable stamina cans during normal play.
Dig Downward to Reach High-Value Loot Tiers
Mining rewards improve with depth. Clearing every block of dirt on shallow layers expends pickaxes on low-grade materials, delaying your access to higher-tier ores and gems.
- 0–100m (Shallow Layers): Yields standard dirt and low-grade copper. Dig downward immediately without side detours.
- 100–300m (Mid-Depth Layers): Yields silver ores, standard chests, and occasional explosives.
- 300m+ (Deep Shafts): Yields rare gold, gems, elite upgrade ores, and high-tier reward chests needed for artifact and gear refinement.
To descend quickly, excavate a single vertical column. If high-durability stone or an indestructible tile blocks your path, step sideways one or two tiles into soft dirt, then resume digging straight down.
Block Priority and Stamina Costs
Every excavation action drains pickaxe stamina based on tile density. Detour from your central shaft only when a revealed block yields high returns or clears adjacent space for free.
| Tile Type | Stamina Cost | Priority | Action Plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| TNT / Bombs | 1 Hit | Critical | Detonate immediately to reveal and break surrounding tiles at no extra stamina cost. |
| Treasure Chests | 1 Hit | High | Break immediately for summoning tickets, gems, and refinement tokens. |
| Rare Ore / Gem Nodes | 1–2 Hits | High | Mine only when located within two tiles of your main descent path. |
| Standard Dirt | 1 Hit | Medium | Mine strictly to open downward movement. |
| Dense Granite / Rock | 2–3 Hits | Low | Bypass entirely by routing around soft dirt. |
| Isolated Common Ore | 1 Hit | Skip | Ignore if reaching it requires branching three or more tiles away from your shaft. |
Before detouring for an ore node, calculate the total pickaxe cost. Spending multiple swings through dirt and rock to grab low-grade silver consumes stamina that is better spent reaching the 300m threshold.
How to Manage Spinach Cans
Natural pickaxe stamina regenerates on an hourly timer up to an account cap. Spinach Cans serve as portable stamina items, restoring a set amount of mining energy instantly when used.
- Spend natural pickaxes continuously: Keep your passive pickaxe counter below its maximum limit to avoid wasting hourly energy regeneration.
- Stockpile Spinach Cans: Save every Spinach Can in your inventory during standard play.
- Unload cans during mining events: Deploy your saved cans in batches when the game runs limited-time mining rush or carnival events.
Event leaderboards and milestone tiers offer summon scrolls, hero shards, and rare upgrade currencies for reaching depth milestones or spending mining stamina. Relying on saved cans during these events lets you claim all milestone tiers without spending Star Diamonds.
Maximizing Explosive Chains
Bombs and TNT barrels break surrounding blocks without consuming additional pickaxe energy. To maximize their yield:
- Expose adjacent tiles first: If a bomb borders cleared space, clear nearby soft dirt first so the explosion's full area of effect hits unmined tiles.
- Trigger chain reactions: Detonating a bomb adjacent to another explosive sets off both blasts, uncovering large sections of the grid for a single pickaxe hit.
