To beat high-level expeditions in Pokémon Quest when your team is below the recommended Power rating, deploy one dedicated buffer running Bulk Up with three Sharing Stones, then pair it with two single-move damage dealers reaching the 10% Hit Healing cap. This setup provides continuous offensive and defensive buffs while letting your damage dealers refill their entire health bar on every attack cycle.

Run a Dedicated Buffer with Three Sharing Stones

Late-game bosses on Happenstance Island deal massive burst damage that will instantly wipe unbuffed Pokémon. Running a dedicated buffer mitigates this incoming damage while boosting your team's damage output to clear waves before getting overwhelmed.

  • Best Move: Bulk Up (found on Machop and Machamp). It raises both Attack and Defense in a single cast. Work Up provides an alternative, but Bulk Up offers the most consistent defensive protection.
  • Move Stones: Equip three Sharing Stones. Each Sharing Stone shares a portion of the user's buff with the rest of the party, ensuring nearly the full Attack and Defense increase applies to your damage dealers.
  • Power Stone Allocation: Prioritize blue HP Power Stones on your buffer. If your buffer faints, your team loses its stat bonuses and quickly wipes.

Use Single-Move Pokémon Instead of Two-Move Sets

Every Pokémon has access to a maximum of three Move Stone sockets shared across its active moves. A Pokémon with two moves splits those three sockets unevenly (typically in a 2–1 or 1–1 layout), which limits how heavily you can modify each ability.

Move SetupAvailable Sockets per MovePractical Advantage
Single Move3 sockets on 1 moveAllows 3 Sharing Stones on buffs or combinations like Whack-Whack and Wait Less on attacks
Split Moves (2 Moves)1 to 2 sockets per moveReduces stone modifiers and causes auto-battle AI to waste cooldowns on weaker attacks

Using single-move Pokémon ensures your buffer can run three Sharing Stones and your damage dealers can fully stack enhancement stones on their primary move.

Cap Hit Healing on Your Attackers

Hit Healing converts a percentage of dealt damage directly back into HP. Because high-level damage skills hit for substantial numbers across multiple strikes, Hit Healing recovers lost health almost instantaneously.

  • Hit Healing Target: Reach the hard cap of 10% Hit Healing across the secondary stats of your Power Stones on all party members. Any stat investment beyond 10% provides no additional benefit.
  • Power Stone Distribution: Aim for 5 to 7 red Attack stones and 2 to 4 blue HP stones on your damage dealers. Attackers only need enough base HP to survive a single hit from a boss; subsequent hits will heal them back to full health.
  • Valuable Secondary Stats: Look for Critical Hit Chance, Critical Hit Damage, and Status Condition Resistance to prevent burns, paralysis, or freezes during boss encounters.

Equip Multi-Hit Offensive Moves

Clear speed directly impacts survival. Prolonged boss fights increase the odds of getting hit by lethal area-of-effect abilities. Focus your offensive roster on high-scaling, multi-hit skills that trigger Hit Healing multiple times per cast:

  • Hydro Pump: The most reliable offensive skill, available on Pokémon such as Starmie, Golduck, and Seadra. It summons tracking water pillars that hit multiple times. Modify it using one Broadburst Stone and two Wait Less Stones.
  • Psychic: Provides reliable homing damage and can apply Defense debuffs to targets.
  • Close Combat: Deals heavy melee burst damage, but requires consistent defensive buff uptime from Bulk Up because melee units stand directly adjacent to bosses.

Dodge Boss Area-of-Effect Attacks with the Scatter Button

Endgame bosses feature visual attack telegraphs, such as charging energy animations or stationary wind-ups. When a boss begins charging a lethal attack:

  1. Tap the yellow Scatter button on the right side of the screen immediately.
  2. Watch your three Pokémon break off combat and sprint away in separate directions.
  3. Tap the button again once the boss's area-of-effect attack resolves to resume fighting.

Using the Scatter button prevents ranged attackers from being caught in close-range wipes and protects your buffer from taking lethal burst damage.
