You do not need 36,500 raw combat power to clear Stage 12-Boss on Happenstance Island in Pokémon Quest. A coordinated team between 22,000 and 26,000 power can consistently defeat the stage by running one dedicated buffer, two multi-hit damage dealers, and capping the Hit Healing stat at 10.0% across the party.

The recommended 36,500 combat power rating only reflects flat HP and Attack values from levels and Power Stones. It ignores move multipliers, Move Stones, and defensive sub-stats. A high-power squad with poorly matched moves will wipe on early waves, while a lower-power team with the correct stat caps and buff uptime can clear the expedition in under three minutes.

Team Composition and Move Stones

Surviving 12-Boss requires a strict setup of one buffer and two multi-hit attackers. Unbuffed squads cannot survive boss attacks on this stage.

  • Buffer (Machop or Machamp): Run the move Bulk Up equipped with three Sharing Stones. Each Sharing Stone shares 25% of the buff with teammates, giving the entire squad 75% of Bulk Up's Attack and Defense increases. Buffs stack up to two times in Pokémon Quest, so recast Bulk Up before the previous buff expires to maintain maximum defense. Allocate five to six HP or Multi-Sockets and three to four Attack Sockets so the buffer survives long enough to recast.
  • Attackers (Two Damage Dealers): Use Pokémon with multi-hit moves such as Hydro Pump (learned by Starmie, Golduck, or Seadra) or Psychic (learned by Alakazam). Equip each attacker with one Whack-Whack Stone to repeat the move, along with Wait Less or Broadburst Stones to reduce cooldowns and expand projectile hitboxes. Allocate five to six Attack Sockets and three to four HP Sockets per attacker.

Key Power Stone Sub-Stats

Gold and Silver Power Stones provide secondary sub-stats that determine your survivability. Prioritize these targets across your team's stone slots:

Stat MetricRecommended TargetPurpose on Stage 12-Boss
Hit Healing10.0% (Hard Cap)Fully restores attacker HP when multi-hit moves connect.
Resist Status Conditions100% (Hard Cap)Completely prevents freeze, burn, and paralysis from the Legendary Birds.
Critical Hit Rate50%–70%Increases burst damage to drop bosses before they cycle attacks.
Base HP Floor3,000–3,500 HP per PokémonPrevents Pokémon from being instantly knocked out by stray boss hits.

Hitting the 10.0% Hit Healing cap is essential. When an attacker deals heavy multi-hit damage with Hydro Pump or Psychic, 10.0% Hit Healing instantly refills their health bar. Keeping at least 3,000 to 3,500 base HP ensures they survive initial incoming hits before that healing triggers.

Wave Breakdown and Boss Tactics

Turn off auto-combat for this stage. Automated play will not dodge telegraphed boss attacks, which can wipe your squad in a single hit.

  1. Waves 1 and 2 (Minions and Mini-Bosses): Cast Bulk Up immediately. Allow your buffer to cast it twice before engaging large packs so your team enters combat with stacked defense buffs.
  2. Wave 3 (The Legendary Birds): You will face Articuno, Zapdos, or Moltres. Spread out your Pokémon to prevent clustered area-of-effect damage. Stay clear of Moltres's Fire Blast zones on the ground. Having 100% Resist Status Conditions prevents Articuno's Blizzard from freezing your buffer mid-cast.
  3. Wave 4 (Mewtwo or Mew): Mewtwo attacks with melee strikes, Psychic blasts, and large attacks like Psystrike or Hyper Beam. Mew uses high-velocity piercing projectile beams.

When to Use the Scatter Button

Watch the final boss's animation closely. When Mewtwo or a Legendary Bird stops moving and begins charging an energy sphere overhead, tap the yellow Scatter button immediately.

This command forces your Pokémon to break attack locks and sprint toward the stage edges, dodging concentrated area attacks like Hyper Beam. Once the attack misses and hits empty ground, let your squad re-engage. Multi-hit attacks will quickly restore any chip damage through your capped Hit Healing.
