In Pokémon Quest, Kabuto evolves into Kabutops starting at level 40. Unlike some unevolved Pokémon that use an Everstone to preserve short move cooldowns, Kabuto should always be evolved into Kabutops. Evolving raises its base attack stats and grants access to high-tier close-range moves such as Waterfall and Leech Life.

Before letting Kabuto reach level 40, verify that your specimen has a single move slot, mostly attack sockets, and offensive bingo bonuses. Once evolved, use Move Training to replace its starting ability with a primary melee damage skill.

Pre-Evolution Checklist: What to Verify Before Level 40

Do not spend resources leveling or evolving every Kabuto you attract. Inspect these structural features at base camp before committing to training:

  1. Move Slot Count: Ensure Kabuto has exactly one active move slot with three Move Stone connector slots. A Pokémon with two moves splits its Move Stones, severely reducing its damage output and making automatic expedition AI unreliable.
  2. Socket Distribution: Look for at least six Attack (ATK) Power Stone sockets out of the nine total slots. Because Kabutops functions primarily as a burst melee damage dealer, having too many defensive Health (HP) slots caps its offensive value.
  3. Bingos: Check the three bingo bonuses. If they provide knockback resistance or movement speed rather than offensive stats, consider benching the specimen and cooking for another.

If your Kabuto meets these conditions, remove any equipped Everstone and bring it to level 40 through standard expedition clears or Level-Up Training.

Best Moves and Move Stone Setups for Kabutops

Kabuto has a limited move pool, but evolving it into Kabutops unlocks several high-impact offensive abilities. Reroll its move at base camp using Move Training once evolution is complete.

MoveTypeBase PowerRecommended Move StonesRole
WaterfallWater2521x Whack-Whack Stone, 2x Wait Less StonesPrimary burst melee DPS
Leech LifeBug1602x Broadburst Stones, 1x Wait Less StoneSelf-sustaining melee bruiser
Rock SlashRock1901x Whack-Whack Stone, 2x Wait Less StonesSecondary physical melee DPS

Waterfall is the premier damage move for Kabutops. It deals heavy burst damage in a forward line, quickly clearing mob waves and staggering bosses. One Whack-Whack Stone triggers the attack twice per use, while two Wait Less Stones lower the cooldown to maintain offensive pressure.

Leech Life serves as an alternative if your team struggles to stay alive. The move restores health based on a portion of the damage dealt, keeping Kabutops healthy against aggressive expedition bosses even if your Power Stones lack maxed recovery stats.

Ideal Bingo Bonuses

When Kabuto evolves, its bingo bonuses adjust their values to match its final form. Aim for rolls that scale physical damage, critical strikes, or Water-type attacks:

  • Bingo 1: ATK +100 or Critical Hit Rate +5%
  • Bingo 2: Critical Hit Damage +15% or Water-Type Moves Wait -10%
  • Bingo 3: Water-Type Moves ATK +20% or ATK +500

Securing a damage-oriented third bingo—especially Water-Type Moves ATK +20% paired with Waterfall—substantially reduces clear times on late-game stages.

How to Attract Kabuto with Cooking

To save time leveling, cook your dishes using the Gold Pot. Pokémon recruited from the Gold Pot arrive at level 70 or higher with higher baseline stats than those recruited from lower-tier pots. A Gold Pot Kabuto can be evolved immediately after a single expedition run.

Target Kabuto with these Special-quality recipes:

  • Stone Soup a la Cube (Special): Combine 3 Rainbow Matter and 2 Precious Minerals, or mix 2 Apricorns, 2 Fossils, and 1 Big Root. This targets the Rock-type pool.
  • Red Stew a la Cube (Special): Combine 5 Big Roots (or equivalent large red ingredients) to pull from the Red ingredient pool.

Power Stone Priority and Team Composition

Because Kabutops attacks at close range, it frequently takes area-of-effect damage from stage bosses. Equip Power Stones that carry secondary stats in this order:

  1. Hit Healing: Reach the 10% hard cap as early as possible so Kabutops restores health with every hit.
  2. Critical Hit Rate and Critical Hit Damage: After capping Hit Healing, stack Critical Hit Rate (up to 100%) and Critical Hit Damage to scale Waterfall's burst potential.

Pair Kabutops with a dedicated buffer running Bulk Up with three Sharing Stones (such as Machamp or Mewtwo). The shared attack and defense boosts keep Kabutops alive through point-blank boss encounters while letting it deal maximum damage.
