When you select Pokémon to act as supporting helpers in Level-Up Training in Pokémon Quest, those supporting Pokémon leave your base camp permanently. They do not return to a reserve box, convert into raw ingredients, or remain available for expeditions. In exchange for their permanent departure, your designated trainee immediately receives an influx of experience points (EXP).
Because training permanently removes these team members, you should always check a helper's moves, Bingo Bonuses, and Power Stones before confirming a session.
How Supporting Pokémon Are Consumed
In the Training menu, you can place one trainee in the center slot and assign up to four supporting Pokémon as helpers.
- Permanent loss: Once you confirm the training session and pass the warning prompt, the supporting Pokémon are permanently deleted from your camp roster.
- Warning prompt: The game displays a confirmation prompt indicating that the helpers will leave.
- Immediate EXP payout: The trainee absorbs the combined EXP value of all sacrificed helpers instantly, which can trigger multiple level-ups and evolutions in a single transaction.
- Loss of equipment and traits: Any unequipped value, unique move, or favorable Bingo Bonus on a sacrificed helper is lost forever.
To protect critical team members from accidental sacrifice, open their summary screen and lock or favorite them. Locked Pokémon cannot be selected as supporting helpers.
EXP Yields and Matching Bonuses
Supporting Pokémon do not grant a static amount of EXP. The payout scales based on the helper's level, evolution stage, and how closely their species and elemental type match the trainee.
| Helper Match Type | EXP Yield | Best Application |
|---|---|---|
| Identical Species | Maximum | Sacrificing duplicate recruits into your primary party members |
| Same Evolution Line | High | Using pre-evolutions or evolved forms to level family members |
| Shared Elemental Type | Moderate | Using surplus recruits of the same type when duplicates are absent |
| Unrelated Type / Species | Baseline | Offloading unwanted, mismatched cooking recruits for small gains |
A higher-level or fully evolved helper also provides more base EXP than a low-level recruit, though matching the species or elemental type yields the highest efficiency per sacrifice.
Managing Trainees and Sacrifice Fuel
Because expedition progress is throttled by your Battery charges, relying solely on stage runs to level up new recruits creates mid-game progression bottlenecks. Level-up training bypasses the battery timer by turning cooking pot ingredients directly into character levels.
- Summon sacrifice fuel with the basic brass pot: The default brass pot uses the fewest ingredients and finishes quickly, producing level 1 to 15 recruits. Mass-producing duplicate species through basic cooking recipes gives you steady, low-cost training fuel.
- Reserve EXP investments for advanced pot recruits: Pokémon summoned using Silver or Gold cooking pots arrive with higher baseline HP and Attack stats than those summoned from basic pots. Save your accumulated training fodder to power-level these higher-stat recruits.
- Separate Level Training from Move Learning: Both training modes permanently consume your supporting helpers. Use the Level-Up Training tab strictly for EXP. If you want to reroll an attack move, switch to the Move Learning tab, which calculates success rates rather than awarding EXP.

Can you add more details about strategy in a future update?
This helped me understand strategy much better.
Nice guide. I am checking the other Pokémon Quest articles next.
This guide answered the exact question I had.
