To play the Heliolisk and Mega Manectric EX deck in Pokémon TCG Pocket, open with low-energy chip damage from Heliolisk to pressure unevolved basics, then pivot into Mega Manectric EX as a high-HP finisher to take multi-point knockouts. Because both attackers share Lightning typing, you do not need to split energy attachments between mismatched types.
20-Card Deck List
This archetype relies on establishing two separate evolution lines while drawing into mobility and draw supporters. The complete 20-card list includes:
| Card | Count | Type / Role |
|---|---|---|
| Electrike | 2 | Basic Pokémon; starter that evolves into Manectric |
| Manectric | 2 | Stage 1 Pokémon; bridge into Mega Evolution |
| Mega Manectric EX | 2 | Mega Pokémon; high-HP anchor and late-game finisher |
| Helioptile | 2 | Basic Pokémon; low-cost active starter |
| Heliolisk | 2 | Stage 1 Pokémon; early tempo attacker and chip damage dealer |
| Poké Ball | 2 | Item; searches for Basic Pokémon |
| Professor's Research | 2 | Supporter; draws cards to cycle into evolutions |
| X Speed / Switch | 2 | Item; mobility tool to rotate wounded attackers |
| Muscle Band / Cape | 2 | Item/Tool; extends damage reach or raises survival thresholds |
| Sabrina / Giovanni | 2 | Supporter; gusts vulnerable benched targets or adds +10 damage |
Evolution Roles and Resource Priorities
Both lines serve distinct phases of the match:
- Heliolisk (Early Vanguard): Helioptile and Heliolisk operate on minimal energy. Evolve Heliolisk early to target opposing basics—such as Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Ralts—before they reach their Stage 2 forms. Applying early chip damage forces opponents to burn switching items or sacrifice support Pokémon.
- Mega Manectric EX (Late Anchor): Transitioning from Electrike through Manectric to Mega Manectric EX requires multiple turns of setup and yields more points to your opponent if knocked out. However, its high HP lets it absorb heavy attacks and trade evenly against opposing EX threats.
Turn Order and Progression
Execute early-turn sequences around board presence and energy commitment:
- Deploy both basics on Turn 1: Use Poké Ball immediately to get both an Electrike and a Helioptile onto the board. Starting with only one Basic Pokémon risks a fast loss to early aggressive hits.
- Assign the first energy based on turn order: If going second with Heliolisk in hand, attach your first Lightning Energy to Helioptile so it can attack on Turn 2. If holding Manectric pieces, commit energy toward Electrike to prepare your anchor.
- Hold Stage 1 cards: Avoid discarding evolution pieces unless you already have duplicate copies in hand. Missing a stage halts board pressure and allows slower setup decks to outscale you.
- Preserve damaged attackers: Once Heliolisk takes damage after taking a point, use X Speed or Switch to rotate it to the bench before it is knocked out.
- Close with Supporter utility: Promote Mega Manectric EX to absorb incoming hits. Use Giovanni to hit a finishing damage threshold if an opposing Pokémon is 10 HP out of range, or play Sabrina to force an injured benched Pokémon into the Active Spot to claim the winning points.
Matchup Considerations
- Water-type Matchups: This Lightning archetype holds a typing advantage against popular Water-type targets such as Greninja and Suicune ex, allowing Heliolisk and Mega Manectric EX to reach knockout thresholds faster.
- Fighting-type Matchups: Fighting decks target Lightning-type weaknesses and can easily one-shot Heliolisk or Electrike. When facing Fighting opponents, avoid evolving into Mega Manectric EX unless you can guarantee an immediate knockout on the active threat, as giving up an EX knockout puts your opponent at a major point advantage.
