In Pokémon TCG Pocket, deploying Mega Gallade effectively requires using the Supporter card Wally to skip the standard turn-based evolution delays. Under normal rules, you must wait one turn before evolving Ralts into Kirlia, and another turn before reaching Gallade or Mega Gallade. Wally bypasses this wait entirely, allowing an immediate evolution on the same turn a Pokémon enters the field.

Because Wally uses your single Supporter action for the turn, running this deck requires disciplined card sequencing, careful Energy planning, and knowing when to prioritize drawing over evolving.

How Wally Accelerates the Ralts Evolution Line

Under default mechanics, a Stage 2 evolution line requires three consecutive turns of setup. This leaves low-HP Basic targets like Ralts exposed to early aggressive attackers.

Wally alters this timing:

  • Same-Turn Evolution: You can play Wally on Ralts the turn it is benched to evolve it into Kirlia immediately.
  • Stage Skipping: If Kirlia is already in play, Wally lets you evolve straight into Gallade or Mega Gallade without waiting another turn.
  • Supporter Opportunity Cost: Playing Wally consumes your one Supporter play for the turn. You cannot cast Professor's Research to refill your hand or Sabrina to disrupt your opponent's Active Spot on the same turn.

Only play Wally when you already hold the required evolution card and have an Energy attachment ready. Playing Wally without the pieces to follow through leaves you with an exposed evolution and an unrefreshed hand.

Core 20-Card Deck List

Pocket limits decks to exactly 20 cards. Dedicating slots to the complete evolution line leaves minimal space for extraneous tech cards, so every slot must focus on consistency and board setup.

CardCountStrategic Role
Ralts2Primary Basic; must be benched early to receive Wally targets.
Kirlia2Stage 1 bridge; enables manual evolution or serves as a Wally target.
Gallade / Mega Gallade2Main Fighting-type attackers; deliver primary strike damage.
Wally2Key engine Supporter; removes the evolution waiting turn.
Poké Ball2Searches unevolved Basics early to secure Ralts.
Professor's Research2Main draw engine; digs through the deck for missing pieces.
Sabrina / Switch2Positional utility to drag out benched foes or swap damaged actives.

To fill the remaining card slots, utility options like Swanna and Skyla can serve as cycling aids or sacrificial pivots while Ralts evolves safely on the Bench.

Turn Sequencing and Priority

Executing this strategy requires adhering to strict turn-by-turn play orders to prevent giving away easy prize points.

Turns 1 and 2: Establishing the Board

  1. Open with a Pivot: Start the match with a resilient utility Basic in the Active Spot whenever possible to keep Ralts safe from early attacks.
  2. Bench Ralts Early: Use Poké Ball to find Ralts on Turn 1 and bench it immediately.
  3. Assess Your Hand: If your hand lacks evolution pieces or Energy, play Professor's Research rather than Wally. Never burn Wally just to evolve Ralts into Kirlia if your hand cannot support the next attack.

Turn 3 Onward: Evolution and Promotion

  1. Attach Energy Systematically: Commit your manual Energy attachments to the Ralts line every turn without interruption.
  2. Execute Wally: Once you hold Mega Gallade and have attached sufficient Energy, activate Wally to complete the evolution.
  3. Promote the Attacker: Use Switch or sacrifice your active pivot to move Mega Gallade into the Active Spot, initiating heavy offensive pressure against opposing high-HP threats.

Handling Dead Hands and Matchup Pressure

The primary risk of the Wally engine is hand depletion. Because the deck commits six card slots to the Ralts line and two to Wally, bricked opening hands can occur.

  • When Missing Pieces: If you draw Wally without the corresponding evolution card, treat Wally as a dead card. Prioritize Professor's Research to dig through your 20-card deck until the evolution chain is in hand.
  • Against Aggressive Basic Decks: Fast attackers will target an active Ralts immediately. Absorb early hits with a secondary Basic, bench your evolution target, and use Wally to jump straight into Gallade's larger HP pool in a single turn.
  • Against Disruption: If an opponent plays Sabrina to pull an unready Kirlia into the Active Spot, maintain a backup Ralts on your Bench to ensure that a top-decked Wally can still develop your second attacker.
