To use the basic combat loop in Punishing: Gray Raven, match three orbs of the same color to trigger a character-specific ability. Time a dodge to avoid an incoming attack and activate Matrix; while it is active, your next orb press counts as a three-orb combo.

Match three same-color orbs

Watch your orb bar and look for three orbs of the same color. Pressing a matched trio triggers a character-specific ability. A single orb press has a weaker, more situational effect, so use the available matches to build your attacks around the abilities they activate.

Use Matrix after a perfect dodge

Dodge an attack at the last possible moment to trigger Matrix. Time slows down, and your next orb press acts as a three-orb combo regardless of the orb's actual length.

When an enemy signals an incoming attack, focus on timing the dodge. Once Matrix activates, use your next orb to trigger the stronger combo.
