To increase your combat effectiveness in RAID: Shadow Legends, take your primary starter champion into Campaign Stage 12-3 (Brimstone Path) alongside three low-level fodder champions. Leveling these low-rank units allows you to sacrifice them as "food" to promote your main carry to Rank 6 and Level 60, establishing the foundation required for mid-game content and Dungeon progression.
How Food Farming Works
Food farming is the process of using one strong, high-level champion to carry weak units through repeated Campaign battles. Instead of spreading your experience points across a full team of main champions, you bring three low-rank common or uncommon champions into every run.
As these fodder units gain experience, you promote their rank and sacrifice them to upgrade your primary champions. A single Level 60 carry champion provides significantly higher base stats and damage output than a full roster stuck at Level 50.
Why Stage 12-3 (Brimstone Path) Is the Primary Target
Campaign stage 12-3 provides the optimal balance of experience points earned per energy spent. In addition to experience, the gear drops from 12-3 sell for higher silver values than most other stages, funding the costly silver requirements for upgrading gear and promoting champions.
If your primary carry cannot clear Stage 12-3 on Brutal difficulty alone, adjust your setup based on your current account strength:
| Stage Target | Requirement | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Brutal 12-3 | Starter champion at Level 50 with equipped gear | Primary farming target for maximum XP and silver output. |
| Hard 12-3 | Starter champion unable to solo Brutal 12-3 | Fallback target to gain levels while refining gear. |
| Normal 12-3 | Early-game carry struggling on Hard difficulty | Temporary farming location until basic champion stats improve. |
Do not switch to a different stage location if Brutal is too difficult. Dropping down to Hard or Normal 12-3 maintains consistent efficiency while your carry champion gains the raw power needed to clear higher difficulties.
Champion Investment Priorities
Spreading resources evenly across multiple champions slows overall progress. Focus all initial Campaign energy according to three main roles:
- The Primary Carry: Invest all initial leveling energy into bringing your main starter champion to Level 60 first.
- The Support Unit: After securing your Level 60 carry, level a secondary champion focused on team buffs or enemy debuffs to increase team survival in higher stages.
- The Food Champions: Keep a continuous rotation of common and uncommon fodder units in the remaining three team slots to absorb experience from every run.
Energy and Daily Automation
Prioritize spending daily Campaign energy on food farming before investing heavily in gear Dungeons. Higher-tier Dungeon gear requires strong base stats to be effective, which low-level champions cannot utilize efficiently.
Use the game's Multi-Battle feature to automate repeated 12-3 runs while leveling rotation fodder. Maintain this pipeline until your primary core team reaches Rank 5 or Rank 6.

This saved me time in the early game.
Nice guide. I am checking the other RAID: Shadow Legends articles next.
Can you add more details about strategy in a future update?
I wish I had read this before upgrading the wrong thing.
