To defeat Tartarus the Oarsman in RAID: Shadow Legends Arena, neutralize his passive cheat-death mechanics before committing your main damage rotation, or strike through his defensive thresholds using attacks that ignore survival buffs. Tartarus survives fatal bursts through passive mitigation and triggered survival states, which renders standard single-turn cleave teams ineffective if launched without proper control.

Countering Tartarus with Passive Lockout

Applying Block Passive Skills prevents Tartarus from activating his cheat-death mechanics, letting standard damage dealers eliminate him in an ordinary damage window.

ChampionPrimary RoleCounter Mechanism Against Tartarus
RondaSingle-Target DPSPlaces Block Active Skills and Block Passive Skills without an Accuracy check
Ramantu DrakesbloodControllerApplies team-wide Block Passive Skills to disable enemy safety nets
Sun WukongNuker / DebufferStrips defensive buffs, steals positive effects, and applies Sheep
Georgid the BreakerVoid NukerBypasses Unkillable buffs and ignores Stone Skin defense

Ronda is the most straightforward counter because her skill lockout bypasses enemy Resistance, eliminating the risk of a high-Resistance Tartarus resisting the debuff. When Ramantu lands his team-wide lockout, Tartarus loses his triggered survivability alongside any passive protections his allies provide.

Bypassing Survival Buffs and Revives

If you cannot lock down Tartarus's passive, use attacks that pierce cheat-death states or permanently remove him from the match. Tartarus is frequently paired with revivers like Duchess Lilitu or Elva Autumnborn to extend defensive battles.

  1. Ignore Unkillable: Deploy damage dealers such as Georgid the Breaker or Genbo the Dishonored. If Tartarus triggers an Unkillable state, their primary attacks pierce the buff to finish him off immediately.
  2. Apply Block Revive: Land final blows with champions like Fenax, Foli, or Inithwe Bloodtwin. Securing the kill with Block Revive prevents enemy supports from bringing him back.
  3. Strip Triggered Buffs: If relying on a two-stage nuker strategy, speed-tune a high-Accuracy buff stripper to act immediately after your first attacker triggers Tartarus's survival thresholds. Stripping his protective buffs clears the way for a secondary hit before he takes a turn.

Crowd Control and Speed Tuning

Hard crowd control neutralizes Tartarus even if his passive cheat-death activates. If he survives at minimum HP or triggers temporary defensive states, keep him disabled with Stun, Freeze, Sleep, or Provoke.

Turn meter controllers like Armanz the Magnificent can repeatedly drain Tartarus's turn meter while layering control debuffs. This allows your team to cycle abilities while his temporary survival buffs expire naturally. Once his protection wears off, basic attacks are sufficient to finish him without expending critical skill cooldowns.

When building an Arena offense against Tartarus:

  • Inspect the enemy team for high-Resistance cleansers and prioritize unresistable lockout or strip abilities.
  • If Tartarus is equipped in Stone Skin gear, use bomb champions or dedicated Stone Skin bypass attackers rather than conventional critical cleaves.
  • Ensure your follow-up attacker or debuffer is speed-tuned directly behind your opener to prevent Tartarus from acting between hits.
