The game’s main loop is built around making decisions, managing a touring crew, and dealing with whatever the galaxy places in front of you. Reigns: Beyond features more than 1,400 decision cards, giving each encounter the potential to redirect your band’s journey. Those choices are not isolated from the practical business of touring. You must manage your ship’s resources and keep your crew in check while moving between performances, balancing the demands of survival with the ambition to become famous. The ship also serves as a social space: you can hang out there for band practice, interact with your crew and the ship’s know-it-all AI, and offer directions to lost space travellers. These activities give the voyage a rhythm beyond simply arriving at the next club, while the consequences of your decisions help shape how the tour unfolds.

Recruitment and discovery are equally important parts of the campaign. As the band travels, it can recruit alien band members, building a lineup drawn from the game’s collection of more than 60 curious characters. The cast includes your manager, Lord Shark, Strombo the scholarly mollusc, Gron the space bear, your crew, and the ship’s AI, giving the tour a distinctive group of personalities to encounter and manage. You can also unlock the legendary Galactic Guitars, adding a tangible collection goal to the broader pursuit of stardom. Between recruiting new performers, unlocking instruments, practicing aboard the ship, and surviving the demands of the route, progression feels tied to the band’s identity rather than to a generic equipment ladder.

When trouble interrupts the tour, Reigns: Beyond shifts into swiping dogfights. Pirates and overzealous tax collectors turn travel into an immediate survival problem, making combat another consequence of how you manage the band’s journey. On PC, a larger display is useful for reading the full wording of decision cards and comparing their possible implications before committing to a choice, especially when several concerns—resources, crew stability, and the next gig—are competing for attention. Keyboard-and-mouse input also suits the game’s repeated decision-making and rapid dogfight interactions: a mouse makes it easy to select card responses precisely and react quickly when a swiping encounter begins, while the keyboard can keep routine choices and ship management comfortable over a long tour.
