To survive and progress on RuneScape's permanent Deadman Mode server (World 345), prioritize stat protections immediately, store core wealth in your Safe Deposit Box, and train within guarded safe zones before traveling open roads. A death in an unprotected area grants your killer a bank key to your most valuable items and removes experience from unprotected skills, making defensive preparation essential.

Securing Wealth with the Safe Deposit Box

When you die in an unprotected zone, your killer receives a bank key that unlocks your most valuable bank stacks. The Safe Deposit Box protects up to ten individual item stacks from this mechanic, preventing total account wipeouts.

Never place easily replaceable items in these ten slots. Prioritize these items instead:

  • Primary coin stack: Holds the liquid capital needed to buy replacement gear, runes, and food immediately after respawning.
  • Emergency teleports: Stockpiles of teleport tablets, law runes, or charged teleport jewelry for quick escapes.
  • High-value gathering tools: Difficult-to-replace equipment such as dragon pickaxes or dragon hatchets.
  • Combat runes: Stacks of death, blood, or chaos runes required for defensive binding spells and offensive magic.

To protect assets beyond your ten safe slots, convert liquid wealth into untradeable quest items or consumed account unlocks. Untradeable quest rewards cannot be taken through bank keys.

Selecting Stat Protections

World 345 features accelerated experience rates, but unprotected deaths wipe a major portion of experience from unprotected skills. Access the Deadman Mode interface immediately upon account creation to lock your protected skills.

You can protect two combat skills and three non-combat skills:

Slot TypeRecommended SkillReason
Combat Slot 1HitpointsPrevents one-shot deaths from high-level players after respawning.
Combat Slot 2Magic or RangedPreserves defensive binding spells and teleports, or keeps low-cost ranged damage.
Utility Slot 1AgilityMaintains run energy restoration and access to escape shortcuts.
Utility Slot 2Herblore or PrayerSaves skills that require expensive materials or risky wilderness training.
Utility Slot 3ThievingProvides a zero-risk, reliable gold source located inside guarded cities.

Train early combat inside guarded city walls—such as on rats or city guards in Varrock—to build safe levels before entering open-world slayer tasks.

Guarded cities like Varrock, Falador, Ardougne, and Lumbridge are protected by elite guards that instantly freeze and execute skulled players. Because of this, player-killers frequently camp just outside town borders.

Apply these travel rules whenever moving between towns:

  • Avoid main roads: Steer clear of obvious bottlenecks, including the road between Lumbridge and Varrock, the Draynor Village crossroads, and the Al Kharid gate.
  • Head for single-combat areas: If attacked, move directly into single-way combat zones so clans cannot attack you at the same time.
  • Carry instant teleports: Keep one-click teleport tablets in your inventory. In-combat teleport delays apply on World 345, so trigger escapes before an opponent lands a bind or Tele Block.
  • Watch your mini-map: Rotate your camera and monitor the mini-map edges to spot approaching white player dots before they appear on your main game screen.

Combat Defense and Escape Tactics

Survival in open areas requires delaying opponents and breaking combat contact:

  • Unlock overhead prayers early: Train Prayer to level 43 as soon as possible. Protect from Magic, Missiles, and Melee drastically reduce incoming burst damage.
  • Break line of sight: Run through dense tree lines, duck behind buildings, or close doors behind you to disrupt player pathing and create time to log out.
  • Use Agility shortcuts: Obstacles like the Falador wall crumble or Varrock fence gaps create instant separation against pursuers who lack the required Agility level.
  • Do not skull accidentally: Attacking an unskulled player gives you a skull, turns city guards hostile, and blocks bank access. If you skull, retreat to an obscure single-way area, conserve food, and wait out the timer before attempting to enter a city.

Step-by-Step Post-Death Rebuild

When you die, follow this sequence to restore baseline equipment without risking secondary deaths:

  1. Verify your stats: Open your skill tab to confirm your protected combat and utility skills remained intact, noting any unprotected skills that lost levels.
  2. Withdraw seed money: Visit the bank, access your Safe Deposit Box, and withdraw a small portion of your coins. Leave the rest protected.
  3. Purchase basic starter gear: Buy cheap shop armor and elemental staves or bows from city vendors to handle basic NPC aggression.
  4. Restock travel supplies: Buy inexpensive food (such as bread or trout) and grab replacement teleport tablets.
  5. Re-train lost levels safely: Use the server's accelerated experience rates on targets inside guarded city walls to restore lost stats before venturing back into open territory.
