Surviving a zero-damage restriction account in RuneScape requires eliminating every action that risks hitpoint loss. A single point of damage from an enemy attack, environmental trigger, poison tick, or skilling failure invalidates the run. To progress safely, immediately toggle off Auto-Retaliate, train through non-damaging skilling methods, abuse terrain collision to trap monsters, and prioritize 43 Prayer to negate standard incoming combat damage.

Core Rules for Damage Elimination

Every activity must be audited for environmental and mechanical risks before entering an area:

  • Disable Auto-Retaliate: Keep Auto-Retaliate turned off at all times. If an enemy approaches, an automatic retaliation swing can pull your character out of cover and into attack range.
  • Track Aggression Timers: Know enemy aggression radiuses and the standard ten-minute unaggressive timer. Entering an aggressive zone without overhead protection prayers can end a run immediately.
  • Prevent Environmental Ticks: Plan around area hazards such as desert heat dehydration, swamp gas in Morytania, mountain snow, and falling cavern rocks. Use required gear, travel bypasses, or quest completions to neutralize them before entering.

Safe Skilling and Agility Routing

Certain skills inflict direct damage on failed actions. You must restrict your training to zero-fail activities or methods where failure carries no hitpoint penalty.

Agility Progression

Failing obstacles on standard rooftop courses, including the Draynor Rooftop and Pollnivneach courses, inflicts falling damage.

  • Train from level 1 to 20 or higher at the Gnome Stronghold Agility Course, which has a zero percent failure rate.
  • Do not use other courses or world map shortcuts until your Agility level completely eliminates the failure roll.

Safe Thieving

Failing a pickpocket attempt against standard NPCs results in a stun accompanied by direct damage. Substitute standard pickpocketing with non-damaging training options:

  • Stall Thieving: Stealing from baker, silk, or fur stalls inflicts no damage if caught. Guards will shout or attack, which you can prevent by breaking line of sight.
  • Sorceress’s Garden: Running the autumn or summer gardens provides Thieving and Farming experience with zero damage penalties upon detection.
  • Trap Disarming: Stick to training on safe lockboxes or disarming chest traps to avoid retaliatory poison needle or spring damage.

Combat Mechanics: Flinching and Safe-Spotting

When combat is unavoidable, you must prevent enemy retargeting and retaliatory swings entirely using Ranged, Magic, or melee flinching.

Melee Flinching

Melee flinching abuses the combat reset timer of trapped or unaggressive enemies without exposing you to counterattacks.

  1. Position your character behind an unpathable corner or terrain obstacle.
  2. Wait 8 to 9 game ticks (4.8 to 5.4 seconds) until the enemy's yellow health bar fully disappears, resetting its internal combat timer.
  3. Step out and attack on the exact tick.
  4. Immediately click back behind cover. Because the enemy's attack timer was reset, it must spend its first active tick acquiring you, allowing you to break line of sight before it can swing.

Safe-Spotting

Trapping enemies behind obstacles is the safest way to train Ranged and Magic:

  • Exploit monster sizes. Enemies that occupy 2x2 or 3x3 tiles cannot pass through single-tile bottlenecks.
  • Lure targets behind L-shaped corners, stalagmites, fences, or tree edges to attack freely from a distance.

43 Prayer Rush Strategy

Unlocking overhead Protection Prayers is the most critical milestone for account survivability. Protect from Magic unlocks at level 37, Protect from Missiles at level 40, and Protect from Melee at level 43. Standard overhead prayers completely block 100% of incoming damage from normal NPC attacks.

TzHaar Fight Cave Survival Rules

The TzHaar Fight Cave tests zero-damage execution across 63 waves of mixed combat styles, ending with TzTok-Jad.

Wave Positioning

Begin each wave on the south side of Italy Rock to force northern and northwestern enemy spawns to trap themselves along the ridge:

  • Tz-Kek (Level 45): Never attack Tz-Kek with melee. Their passive recoil shell deals 1 damage per hit. Kill them exclusively with Ranged or Magic.
  • Tok-Xil (Level 90): Activate Protect from Missiles at the start of every wave until you verify whether a ranger has a clear line of sight to your tile.
  • Ket-Zek (Level 360): Keep Protect from Magic active whenever Ket-Zek units are alive. Their magical attack can hit up to 49 through standard defenses.

TzTok-Jad Execution

TzTok-Jad requires strict prayer switching based on animation and sound cues:

  • Magic Attack: Listen for a distinct charging sound accompanied by a floating fireball animation. Activate Protect from Magic immediately.
  • Ranged Attack: Watch for Jad's front legs slamming down in a stomp motion without a charging sound. Activate Protect from Missiles immediately.

When the Yt-HurKot healers spawn at 50% health, do not let them reach your tile. Attack each healer once using a long-range weapon, such as a Crystal Bow or a Crossbow set to Longrange. Line the healers up in a single file behind one another so only the lead healer can reach you, and maintain your prayer switches against Jad until the boss is defeated.
