In Saints Row: The Third, you build and alter your character's physical appearance, clothing layers, and voice profile using the customization menu and in-game stores across Steelport. Character modifications remain active across gameplay and cinematic cutscenes, and you can re-customize your protagonist at any point during the campaign.

Customizing Physical Features and Body Options

Initial character creation and subsequent body modifications are managed through the Style tabs in the customization menu suite. Adjustments affect your character's visual silhouette and general movement presentation during combat and exploration.

Key physical customization categories include:

  • Facial Features & Skin Tone: Modify face shape, complexion, skin tone, and facial details.
  • Body Sliders: Adjust overall physical build, body proportions, and height distribution.
  • Movement Animations: Choose specific walk styles and idle movement sets for your character.

These options do not alter character stats, health pools, or combat efficiency, but they carry over directly into every narrative cutscene.

Layering Clothing and Wardrobe Outfits

Clothing is categorized by individual garment slots rather than locked full-body skins, allowing you to create custom attire by mixing individual wardrobe pieces.

To acquire and apply clothing options:

  1. Visit Clothing Stores: Travel to marked apparel shops located throughout the districts of Steelport to browse available inventory.
  2. Combine Upper Body Layers: Equip base layers like shirts under outerwear such as jackets or coats.
  3. Equip Lower Body Items: Select trousers, jeans, skirts, or shorts to pair with your top selections.
  4. Add Accessories: Finish outfits by equipping hats, eyewear, or gloves.

Visual styles do not add armor or defensive bonuses, but your selected color choices and attire remain consistent across all mission encounters and cutscenes.

Changing Character Voice Profiles

Your protagonist's dialogue lines are governed by your selected voice profile in the menu settings.

  • Voice Types: Options include distinct voice styles ranging from humorous to cynical, altering how line reads sound during story interactions.
  • Modifying Options Later: Voice selections are not permanent locks. If you wish to change your character's vocal presentation, re-enter the customization menu to swap to a different voice profile without resetting campaign progress.
