To beat Level 117 in Sand Blocks: Drop Puzzle, clear full rows of matching sand by dropping pieces so their grains settle from the far-left boundary to the far-right boundary. Keep like colors grouped along separate flanks of the board, level out central mounds before dropping narrow pieces, and avoid releasing blocks while sand is still in motion.

Mechanics and Win Conditions

Level 117 uses a standard vertical grid where rigid geometric shapes crumble into granular sand upon impact.

  • Line Clear Condition: Sand clears only when an unbroken, wall-to-wall horizontal stream of a single matching color connects the left and right borders of the container.
  • Physics and Settling: Sand granules slide down sloped surfaces, slip into crevices, and spread outward until blocked by walls or other sand.
  • Loss Condition: The stage ends in failure if accumulated sand crosses the red line near the top of the grid.

Because pieces do not remain rigid blocks, drops must be positioned to guide how loose granules spread across the floor rather than just stacking shapes.

Board Setup and Color Sorting

Mixed-color drops in Level 117 can quickly create fragmented layers that prevent wall-to-wall connections. Establish clean zones immediately from the base of the board:

  • Assign Flanks by Color: Dedicate the left side of the basin to one primary color and the right side to another. Keep the center clear for transitions or leveling drops.
  • Rotate Split-Color Pieces: Inspect dual-color pieces before they land. Orient the block so each color faces the matching deposit on its corresponding side.
  • Prevent Checkerboarding: Avoid alternating different colors directly in the same column. Sand layers stacked this way block each other from reaching the opposite wall until the top layer is completely cleared.
  • Isolate Stray Colors: When an incoming piece does not match either active flank, steer it against an outer wall to keep the central lane open for line completions.

Managing Terrain and Bridging Gaps

Pyramidal peaks form naturally when sand drops repeatedly in one spot. Uncontrolled peaks cause incoming grains to scatter chaotically toward the edges, splitting your colors.

Flattening Peaks

Drop wide, flat shapes across the summits of tall sand piles to blunt their slopes. A flatter surface stabilizes subsequent drops, allowing new sand to settle across the full width of the board instead of sliding uncontrollably down the sides.

Bridging Center Troughs

When matching sand accumulates against both outer walls with a dip in the middle, drop matching pieces directly above the depression. Loose grains will funnel into the low point, linking the two outer deposits into a single connected sheet that immediately triggers a clear.

Drop Priorities by Board Height

Manage incoming blocks based on current sand height to prevent vertical overflow:

Board StateObjectiveDrop Action
Clean Basin (Low Height)Establish color foundationsPlace wide blocks flat across the floor, separating colors to the left and right.
Uneven Terrain (Mid Height)Level slopes and connect gapsDrop pieces into depressions to fill troughs; avoid adding height to existing peaks.
Fragmented Layers (Mid Height)Expose buried colorsFocus on completing a horizontal line with the topmost color to dissolve the obstruction.
Near Danger Line (High Height)Prevent game-over overflowDiscard unmatched colors against side walls and complete immediate lines to lower board height.

If an accidental drop caps an active layer with the wrong color, do not try to add matching sand beneath it. Pivot immediately to completing a line across that new top layer. Clearing the upper blockage exposes the lower sand, allowing you to resume your original clearing path safely.

Timing Inputs to Prevent Collisions

Rushing piece placements is the primary cause of sudden board overflow in Level 117. Releasing a block while previous grains are still airborne causes a mid-air collision, shattering the incoming piece high above the grid and scattering its granules across unintended columns.

Always pause between drops until the preceding shape has hit the surface, crumbled, and settled to a complete stop before dropping the next piece.
