To win with Spell Chimera Runecraft in Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond, keep a single Chimera payoff in your opening hand, cycle cheap 1-Play Point (PP) and 2-PP spells to charge its Spellboost count, and remove opposing Ward followers before dropping your finisher.

Core Deck Roles

Spell Chimera Runecraft functions as a tempo-combo deck. You spend the early and mid-game casting low-cost spells that clear enemy boards and draw cards, simultaneously boosting the damage and reducing the costs of key cards held in your hand.

Card RoleKey MechanicsStrategic Purpose
Primary FinisherScales damage via total SpellboostsDelivers direct burst or one-turn-kill (OTK) damage to the leader
Cycling EngineLow-PP card drawCycles the deck while accelerating Spellboost counters
Interactive RemovalScaling damage based on boostsClears enemy followers while maintaining Spellboost cadence
Mid-Game StabilizerWard or cost-reduced followersAbsorbs incoming attacks during evolution turns

Because Chimera damage scales compound value for every turn it sits in your hand, an early draw scales substantially better than one drawn on turn 6.

Mulligan Strategy

Opening decisions determine whether your deck cycles smoothly or stalls out with unplayable high-cost cards.

High-Priority Keeps

  • Low-Cost Draw Spells (1–2 PP): Keep cheap cantrips to establish card flow and immediately start boosting payoffs.
  • A Single Chimera: Keep exactly one copy of your primary finisher. Holding one ensures maximum boost accumulation without clogging your early plays.
  • Early Removal: Keep targeted cheap removal against aggressive archetypes like Swordcraft or Face Dragoncraft to preserve your defense.

Discards

  • Multiple Finishers: Discard extra copies of your high-cost Chimera. The deck cycles rapidly enough to draw backup finishers naturally by turns 5 and 6.
  • Unboosted High-Cost Followers: Send back secondary high-cost units unless your hand already contains two cheap cycling spells.

When playing first, prioritize cheap draw spells to offset the opening card disadvantage. When playing second, value reactive removal spells higher to prepare for an early evolution swing.

Mid-Game Resource and Hand Management

Turns 4 through 6 require balancing card draw against board stabilization.

  • Prevent Hand Overflow: Count your hand size before casting multi-card draw effects or token-generating spells. Burning a boosted Chimera or key combo piece immediately breaks your win condition.
  • Prioritize Removal Over Draw at Low Health: If the opponent builds a wide board, spend PP on cost-reduced removal rather than pure draw spells to prevent fatal chip damage.
  • Target Evolution Points for Board Swings: Reserve evolution points for utility followers that eliminate multiple threats or provide bonus Spellboost activations. Avoid evolving purely to deal face damage unless you can guarantee lethal on the following turn.
  • Spellboost During Passive Turns: If an opponent plays passively, spend your remaining PP casting spells—even targeting suboptimal units—simply to raise your Chimera damage threshold.

Chimera damage distributes across active enemy followers before hitting the opposing leader. If the opponent leaves high-health or Ward followers on the board, those units absorb the burst and prevent an outright win.

Follow this turn-by-turn sequence to close out matches:

  1. Turns 1–3: Cycle cards, preserve your leader's defense, and charge your held Chimera.
  2. Turns 4–6: Deploy mid-tier removal, evolve utility units, and monitor your hand cap.
  3. Turn 7: Soften enemy boards, eliminate Ward followers with cheap spells, and calculate remaining health totals.
  4. Turn 8 and Beyond: Cast the fully boosted Chimera to wipe residual followers and deal lethal damage to the opposing leader.

Lethal Arithmetic

Before spending PP on your combo turn, calculate your exact burst:

  1. Add the current defense values of all enemy followers on the board.
  2. Subtract that cumulative total from your Chimera's Spellboost damage count.
  3. Compare the remaining value against the enemy leader's current defense.

If your remaining damage falls two to three points short of lethal, assess your incoming damage. If your defense allows you to survive an additional turn, deploy a defensive Ward follower and split your burst over two turns. If facing an opponent capable of sudden burst damage, spend your remaining hand resources immediately to fish for direct burn spells rather than waiting.
